We have some distinguished and reputable brokers on YF that have never taken promotional opportunities. They are here because they have a passion for boats and enjoy sharing their knowledge. These are the folks that we hope our readers will seek when the time comes to buy or sell a boat.

In contrast, there are brokers that have never contributed to YF's collective knowledge base but operate in a clandestine nature; attempting to solicit our members behind the screen. I recently wrote a script to alert me of these actions, but it's not foolproof.

If anyone is contacted by a broker that is not a contributing member of YF, please let us know so we can take appropriate action.

    Thanks.

Thanks for this. We will be looking for a boat in florida shortly and as a member of this forum I would like to work with a good broker. How can I connect with someone from the forum. Carl would it be permissible to have them pm me? Just looking to support.

    Thanks

On the same subject, how can members tell if a fellow member is one of the distinguished and reputable brokers? What constitutes a contributing member? thank you.

Generally, the brokers on YF don't engage members. We've found that members actually seek them out when a broker posts pertinent information, which is really the best business conduct. We've always strived to make YF a place where owners and buyers are comfortable exchanging information, void of industry engagement. Likewise, we don't allow builders or advertisers to engage our readers. Truth is, it's better for them to watch from the sidelines because if they jump in, the net can be a double edged sword.

Good points but I am in Manitoba Canada and when we were down in florida last Feb it was almost overwhelming the number of brokers. I have really enjoyed this forum and the knowledge of the members and would appreciate any referrals if that is possible.

Good question. There's only a handful of brokers on YF. They have been here since the dawn of digital. We've all come to know them through their posts, PMs or even reviews. They are Senior Members of YF. That's the distinguishing part. How do you know they are reputable? Because they don't try to exploit our resource.

    Good Spirit,

It's good to know that members like yourself would prefer to work with members of YF. That's called community, but more importantly for you, when you work with a broker you found on YF, you can bet he will hold himself to a higher standard. This is a very public venue!

I couldn't agree more and would love to connect. We are going to be in Ft myers in Feb and at the Miami boat show. If any members are in that part of Florida I would to meet personally. First beer is on me.

If I may make a plug, I'd like to point Good Spirit to Judy as a good place to start. Although I haven't personally used her services, she always given the impression of being top notch and trustworthy. Go to the SEARCH feature and pull up the posts by JWY. If after looking them over you agree send her a PM.

Over the course of the summer I built an entire website for the concept in case we decided to proceed. Had some time to rethink the model and may have found a better way forward. Everything is on hold for now, getting ready for FLIBS then Vegas for the NBAA. Best not to discuss the details publicly.
