The "Sea Deuce" 65 Donzi hull #4 - SOLD!

I was told there was a SS option but I went with cast iron. The old unit was cast iron and lasted 12 years and 4000+ hours. That's good enough for me.

Saddle up - we're headed to The End for three weeks and then we ride down the coast. Here's a small portion of the grog and provisions...

The right corner of the pic are the three Absolutes + a Batjuice; additional reserves. Far more beer is already aboard; the Sea Deuce does not run out of grog. This is what fit in my sedan for the days shopping, more today. When I'm driving my '84 diesel wagon the load is tripled.

New salon AC unit- previous one failed after a short life however the original identical unit since I've been on the boat lasted 13 years. Unknown compressor failure but under warranty. Drier still needs the support block beneath it and a bit more clean up in the area but I'm happy. This unit feeds two air handlers to cool or heat the main salon- which it does awesomely even with the main cabin door open. This is one of five units on the vessel- each stateroom has it's own unit of course.


New pic of the hot water heater installed in May/June this year. Who wants to have a cold shower or have to replace it when it fails? Again the last unit lasted well over a decade.

Yeah each stateroom- the master, the V berth, the over/under and the crew- each has it's own compressor and a single air handler, while the salon has one compressor and two air handlers. I think the installed cost of the salon unit was around $5500; it's a 24K BTU unit. All of these units appeared to be new when I came aboard in the spring of '05 save the crew, which still has a Marine Airrrrrrr which was still kicking last time I checked. It may need a replacement soon. I believe the whole vessel had Marine Airrrr when it was new. IDK. I have three raw water systems for the AC- one each for the salon and crew, and the three forward are on one 240v pump that operates when any of the units are on.

What was the reason to replace both units when one would not heat? Wouldn't that be a control issue for one unit not a compressor issue for both?

It's a new Furuno NavNet TZ touch2. It's a chart plotter, sounder and viewing screen for many other function. The old Simrad EQ44 lasted well over a decade and finally gave up the ghost. A great new addition to the helm; it'll take a bit of time to explore all the capabilities of this very fine unit.

One day remains of the voyage down the coast. My middle son is aboard for his first extended trip as well as another captain to round out my crew. Home to Palm Beach tomorrow!

Our trip from Charleston to St Augustine (dock to dock) was 197 miles and we took on 839.54 gallons of fuel. Travel time was 9 1/2 hours. If my math is correct that works out to 20.7 knots burning 88.37 gallons per hour. That was at a bit over 1750 rpm on the gauges. That's right in line with previous calculations over the years. I'd estimate there was about three miles of just over idle speed while leaving and entering the areas close to the marinas.

Back home in Palm Beach Shores at Sailfish marina and resort! Did a quick snorkeling at high tide today and it was spectacular; two sleeping nurse sharks (I've seen that pair for 5 straight years now), plenty of cuda, perhaps 100 snook + countless other fish up to 50 pounds. Visibility was perhaps 80 feet. The boat's bottom was clean and the boat ran great down the coast.
