Where Are The Donzi Folks?

    The 2000 series have been around for over 15 years and to be honest I haven't heard anything really bad about them. I have no first hand info about the 10 cylinders, but I know many boats with the 12 and 16 that have many hours on them. You will find that the German engine manufactures parts seem to cost more when service is needed.

    Dockmaster, I would like to know more about the pot hauler your installing. Are you using it to haul your anchor in the deep?

    I've run 12
    I've run 12v and 16v 2000's and they're good motors. However, Viking put a set of the 10v's in a 55'-ish SF and it took 4 years and a forever to get on plane. They played with several sets of props, they even went as far as changing the gears and using a larger reduction and more prop play, it was still sluggish to get on plane but passable. They never used another set of the 10v's. I've never even seen or heard of the 8v2000's being used in a Sportfish as of yet.

    The pot puller I got is for retrieving crab and shrimp pots. It is a Safe-T-Puller semi commercial unit rated for 300#'s. 110' per minute I beleieve. It is not for pulling an anchor.
    I often anchor in up to 300' of water or more for Halibut fishing. I installed a Maxwell vertical windlass and have 700' of rode. The Maxwell unit works really well. My rode is 3/8" chain and 3/4" 8 plate rope.

    I'm not really considering the 8v's. If I decide to stay with same hp I will almost certainly go with the CATs. Capt J I did do some quick looking at the MANs based on your comments. At first pass they are definitely worth more consideration. Only complaints out there I found is the cost of service and parts and having to run synthetic oil. There is a dealer in Seattle not far from where I live so I'll contact them and get some info.

    I hear you. We anchor a lot on the ledge and many boats have been installing pot haulers for there windlass. We can have a thousand feet of line out and the haulers make quick work of it when retrieving.

    Have you tried the poly ball on the big s/s ring and running around in a circle where the poly ball runs down the line and lifts the anchor?

    Yes. When. I had my 39' boat I was able to use a small lunch hook and pulled it with a buoy. But now I use (and need) a 75# anchor and with 100#'s of chai added it is too much to pull that way.

    Its a lot faster and easier using a pot hauler then floating it with the ball. Here is one that a friend of mine was installing on his boat. Its set up for a gypsy capstan on top.

    Why don't you put the 12v2000 in you know they will fit. And with the hp they are putting out you could push 35kts cruise.

    I don't believe the model 12v2000's that you used are available any more. I would likely have to find a used set.

    a quick google of m-91 12v2000 (15ooHP) showed a set with less than 50 hours for sale.

    Thanks. I've requested some info on those from the seller. Of course I'm always a bit skeptical of why someone would have removed engines that only have 50 hrs on them but I guess there could be valid reasons.
