I have a boat that needs new zincs, all 22 of them. I know there's a US distributer that has very reasonable pricing and I can't remember nor find who they are. Recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks, Judy
FQUOTE="JWY, post: 212083, member: 302"]I have a boat that needs new zincs, all 22 of them. I know there's a US distributer that has very reasonable pricing and I can't remember nor find who they are. Recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks, Judy[/QUOTE] Camp Manufacturing in St Petersburg, Fl will sell to "in the trade" as long as you have a Fl. sales tax # they're a marine zinc manufacturer / foundry . Shipping weight will eat most of your savings though.
What makes them stand out as "better" J? weight of the zinc? better compound ? fit? mil spec. are these made here in the states? I know that they look nice and seem to be tumbled or polished in the manufacturing process but always thought along the lines of "an anode is an anode" it doesn't need to be pretty but just needs to work down in the murkiness. Where can I purchase directly from Zimar the manufacturer? Didn't know there was a sacrificial anode that would place second in the bathing suit competition.
They are all zinc and not half filled with concrete or small pebbles like the camps. They also have a copper nub cast into the zinc so it makes positive contact with what it's bolted on. They wear eavenly, whereas the Camps wear all sorts of strange probably due to the filler they put in them.
Come on now J? 50 % concrete and pebbles? I can understand brand loyalty but holy mackerel! I certainly don't want an anode on my boat that's 50% concrete !I was expecting you to come back with maybe Density, ISO, more compound or hand poured but CONCRETE & PEBBLES? You just never know what your gonna get Geeeez Louuise! Good to know....The sad reality is that both companies (as well as others) produce mil spec & ISO anodes for Marine, fresh and salt, Water process plants and Nuclear installations and the requirements for the percentage of alloy compounds are published and are mirror images of each other to comply with Mil spec , NADA, and ISO. I accept your comments on wear but that would to be another thread about hull potential and stray current in the H2/0 so for now I'll stay away from the Sack Crete anodes. Camp Manufacturing, Proudly made in America by the Camp family and is the specified anode used by the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard. Maybe due to the price point ?
Camp may very well have different levels of zincs at different prices. But if you look at the standard variety you pick up at West Marine or elsewhere. Watch how they wear, very chunky and not even, then take a worn one and really look at it. There are pieces in it that look like pebbles or pieces of concrete used as filler. It definately isn't metal. Both Zimar and Reliance make much better zincs. I think Camps are widely used because they are widely made and distributed throughout the US.
I will heartily second the recommendation of Zimars. They are almost always denser than Camps.. look at the weight for each for a given size. Once got to do a side by side comparison.. one set of shaft (2 per side), rudder and trim tab Zimar on starboard Camp on port. I used Deep Blue Yacht Supply in Ftl as my supplier... great service for all under the waterline needs.
