You'll have to help me out here, olderboater. What in my post makes you think that I want to set the rules or share in the decision making?

Your link to rules for moderators. Coupled with your comment regarding self censorship that implies you don't approve of current moderation.

Well, you're wrong. If you knew me, you would know that management decision-making isn't my thing. My career has been as a management analyst. I collect information and analyze it for management to make their decisions. I don't make the decisions; management does, and that's the way I like it.

The above quote is why I posted in the first place. Although it was a response to Beau, I took the highlighted portion literally. Do you think that I was wrong for doing that?

I think it's fine to a point. But I also think one can cross that line. We all have our individual opinions as to when the line is crossed. But I do think Carl has been disrespected with some of the recent comments and I'm not pointing a finger at you or anyone individually, just the tone things went to. Again, I often disagree with Carl, but I always express it privately. In public I'm going to support him 100%. Just the way I'm programmed.

I rarely - if ever - disagree with you OB. Let this be one of the only times. YF doesn't belong to me. It belongs to ALL OF US. It is very much a democracy. On rare occasion, I make decisions as an admin. As you know, I anguish over these decisions because there can be consequences, such as community backlashes. Sometimes, you have to make choices that take a hard line. My only hope is that I make choices that are acceptable by the majority or our members. I know someone will always disagree. It is this person I can learn the most from.

Regarding moderation: A forum with passionate people becomes self-policing. We couldn't do this without you guys. Still, moderation is a necessity and people in this role should not only be polite and fair, but active in the community with a vast knowledge of the forum's focus. Without the latter, they would be ineffective. In this case, we have Lars Modin (AMG), a walking Webster's on yachting, one of the most prolific yacht designers of our time and a consummate gentleman. We've worked together for 12 years and his instincts are uncanny. We're ALL lucky he is here and I'm lucky to call him a friend. The same can be said about Kevin.

YF belongs to ALL OF US.

Then I respect your view, Carl, even if we do disagree. Oddly, in my mind, my view means to me that your view is the way. Omg now I'm totally confused. How did we ever get into this tangled web. I'm going to turn my attention elsewhere, perhaps the woman beside me.

LOL. If you think my view is the way, then you've given me the ultimate compliment as I have the utmost respect for your views. I think we all have the best interest of YF at heart. This is why we should all be respectful of each other. What we've built together is so much more than our individual views. It's a collective effort and a resource that will live on, long after we've cauliflowered our last prop.

Yeah, but he'll have a lot more time to make the forum better now, since he can't walk anywhere! Everythings for the benefit of the forum, you know. hehehe

Just to give you an example. This guy just posted, and as he was new and there was a link in the post, I checked his IP. As you can see, he is posting from the company he links to... So the post was removed, but shown again here of course.. :)

It's 7AM and I'm just logging on to check new posts. Sure enough, Lars removed his first post, then this joker came back 15 minutes ago and made another post; this time a bit more benign. I have removed the post (see attached), but this is an example of a "leader". If his first post with a link was removed, then he returns to place a post that will lead a discussion in the direction of recommending the battery company he represents, then place the link in a response. This guy isn't even original...

Believe it or not Brian, a member compensation plan is something I've contemplated for awhile. Recently, I presented that idea to a select group of senior members who pointed out some pretty big holes in the hull. Although YF does generate revenue, it doesn't provide a 401k or health insurance. I operated YF at a loss for many years, but in recent years it's paid me back. I'm currently exploring some ideas on how we might ramp things up, but let's save that for another time.

Guys in masks with sharp objects scare me! Surgery is scheduled for March 6th. Would have done it next week, but have to attend an NBAA event. Palm Beach Boat Show is March 26th, so I've got 3 weeks to recover.

It probably hurts more to sit-out the Miami Show then it would to walk it right now!

I moderated a board where we required new members to answer a questionnaire to see if they were appropriate for membership (it was a support board for a medical condition). People daily would fill it out with complete lies to get on and then immediately post spam. And it didn't matter how many times you warned members not to click on their links (as some were dangerous), they would click. So you had to remove them very quickly. It's like telling very elderly people not to talk to telemarketers. They don't want to be rude so they end up with $99 Nuwave deals that cost them $260 by the time they're through or end up buying something they have no idea they agreed to, but rest assured the company has a tape of them doing so. I heard one of a woman with dementia who told them a dozen times her thinking wasn't clear that day and showed on numerous times she had no idea what was going on, but they ended up with her saying she agreed to the amount being charged to her bank account. Ultimately her daughter had to take her checks and credit cards away and put her on cash only.

So? Are you going with the stem cell procedure?

First, I have to be scoped to remove a torn piece of meniscus. If finances allow, stem cell injections could help rebuild the meniscus.

Surprisingly, the stem cell procedure is right around 10 grand, whereas your run of the mill knee replacement is somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 grand. And no where near as effective as stem cell. I think you should call my buddy, and get the low down. PM me.

From Emory University's Stem Cell Center:

Who is a candidate for this treatment?
    Injections:

In general, Stem Cell injections are advised for moderate osteoarthritis in the hip, knee, shoulder, ankle, or thumb, where there is not complete collapse of the joint space and not “bone on bone” changes. There are some medical issues (like lymphoma and leukemia) that will preclude you from having a stem cell procedure done.

    Surgical Implantation:

Stem Cell implantation is advised for patients typically over 40 who are active and have cartilage damage / loss in their knee. These patients have failed other treatment options including rest, medications, and physical therapy and are not candidates for total knee replacement.
