    SEAERIC did a magnificent job, but his bridge console is vastly different than the 2000 model. I hope mikewheels glasses and awlgrips

    Agree....Post hasnt made that type of bridge since the 80s

    i posted that as an example of what a little creativity and craftsmanship can do......

    Sounds like the consensus is fiberglass, which makes sense as I think about it. Thanks, I will proceed that way. I plan on mounting 3 of the Garmin 5212s. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good fiber glass guy?

    I decided to go all out and had the helm completely redone. A new 25 kW Furuno radar and the rest is Garmin with a 3 kw chirp. All that extra power demand means a battery bank and charger on the bridge.

    Congratulations on the 50 Post and the Garmins.
    I have Garmins and am extremely happy. On the first trip, which was from Newcastle to the Gold Coast, 450 Naut. Miles, I lost voltage each time the auto pilot was activated, so had to steer the entire journey.
    Easy solution was to add an alternator to the Port engine.
    Much easier, cheaper and less weight up on the flybridge. Plus very low maintenace.
    Just an idea to consider.

    Love to see more pictures and reports. 2/0 cable may have been better than putting a batt /w charger upstairs. Can you share your thoughts?

    The electronics installer did tell me when I selected the 25 kw radar and 3kw Chirp, that there was a good possibility we would need to add a charger and battery's to the helm, due primarily to the limitations of a 12 volt system and cable runs to the bridge. he had done this on another Post. I do like the thought of another alternator, it is very simple. That may have been a solution, if there isn't too much loss in the long cable run. We do have an isolator that allows the engine alternator to charge the helm battery's along with the bridge charger. Trying another picture attachment. helm.jpg m not sure why the photo came thru like it did. I will try another helm picture.

    I had electronics run off of a generator bank on a larger motoryacht. The Generators alternator output would sometimes make the electronics go wonky. So I would stick to a good charger. We ended up putting a bank on the Flybridge and a dedicated charger and fixed the problem. Although I hate adding weight that high on a yacht. I think a very large cable from a bank in the engine room might work in your situation as the run is not as far........

    25kw on 12Vdc? I had to go 24Vdc+ for my 10kw array.
    I always worry about extra weight on a bridge. Some batteries (8D) can weigh as much as a person.
    Probably not an issue on a 50' Post.

    Gorgeous console.

    Thanks, it turned out as imagined, which isn't always the case.
    They installed two AGM battery's which are hopefully up to the task. They actually squeezed in rather nicely. IMG_5167.JPG

    IMG_2923.jpg Very nice looking helm! Did you add the helm pod (wheel/gauges/controls) or was that the configuration your '50 came with? My gauges on my 2000 '50 are starting to fail and I need to come up with a solution. Attached is how my helm is configured.

    The boat came with the pod, levers, and gages as shown. I basically changed the vertical part of the helm and all the electronics and added a storage box. Several gage's did fail so several are new also. My switches are located in a small drop down boxI will hunt around for a pic of that box, as that frees up some important helm space.

    I did find a picture showing the drop down box for the switches and this shows the helm before I changed anything, except for the one Garmin screen which replaced the Northstar chart plotter and a new autopilot. A previous owner had removed the overhead radio boxes a few years before I bought the boat. Drop Box.jpg
