This is the rock above Monaco that can be seen on some of your first pictures; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TĂȘte_de_Chien
Next time I'll have to make the trip to the top for some pics. It's awesome how they built the city into the mountainside. Everything is vertical.
Depending how far your hotel was from the port you might have become very well acquainted with some of those very mountains as part of your daily struggle to come and go. I had a VIP Car Service pass but it was only good for addresses in the Principality, a pity our hotel was about 100 yds outside it.
I was staying in Nice and commuting via train. One evening I almost got stuck in Monaco as I visited the Casino after shooting. Had to persuade the Casino doorman to call me a cab as the line around the corner was not moving. It worked and 85 euro later was back at the hotel. Maybe stay in town next time. In Monaco, trains and cabs stop around 10:30 PM.
Another nice spot for pictures over the bay is the Monte Carlo Golf Club, almost twice as high at 800+ m... http://www.montecarlovirtualtour.com/vuepanoramique/aerial-views/monte-carlo-golf-club/
Earlier in the thread... I posted a reasonable hotel suggestion about 1.5 miles / 3km from the venue within reasonable walking distance. Traffic is horrific in the SOF and Monaco it's worse and the policing authorities are draconian... notice the Prince rides a golf cart around. Parking is truly forget it. Driving other than on the main roads very tight quarters... use a micro car! The train or the helicopter service is the only choice or walk if you stay nearby. The helicopter service you can buy multiple trip passes books... and its a little over 100 Euro each way from Nice... or many residents have a billing service set up... sort of like paying the utility bills... and its about that bad because of the traffic situation. They will fly you anywhere to or from you want including landing in parking lots at restaurants etc. but all of that is extra depending on distance... heavens they will fly to the Alps for day ski trips if you want or to Paris... a couple refuels along the way. So you could stay way out if you pay the fair. Of course the hotel in Cap d'Ail I suggested is normally about 160-200 euro a night... mom always puts her house guests up (though she has a nice guest house quarters and I have been know to stay at the hotel to keep out of mom's wrath) interesting as far as the car situation goes she has a brand new 1985 car in the garage that never gets driven... new battery every time I take it out to see if it still runs... its that hateful to get around by car. I don't recommend a motorbike or scooter either if you want to have some skin. K1W1... why the Principality is butted up against the hill is the family owned lots more land a century or so ago but France and Italy encroached over the years and during lean time some was sold off. They used to own all of Cap Martin for example as a hunting preserve. About 1960 things stabilized France with the treaty... thats why most of Monaco VAT goes to France they only get to keep a couple percent... and French citizens pay French tax even if they reside in Monaco... unless there continuous residency predates the treaty.
I went to send you a PM but it seems these are now called conversations so I sent one of those with a bit of info.
The picture is most certainly copyrighted, in 90% of the world (including pretty much all of Europe and North America) a picture is copyrighted the instant it is taken, but the copyright is practically unenforcable until it is registered. That said, copyright wouldn't stop you from making a picture your desktop background. Just don't go around distributing the image off of YF without Carl's permission, and/or the permission of whoever posted it to YF.
K1W1, thanks for the info. We'll talk more about it. Kevin, look forward to it. Enjoy sharing the photos and techniques. Here's another for you from Monaco. No adjusting here other than cropping a bit and adding watermark (and a hidden watermark). For the copyright question earlier, there's no control preventing a screen scrape to use an image on a desktop, but a strict no-no using it commercially. Even without the photo being registered, there is an implied copyright that will stand up in court. I have found my images used in the past by companies and once they learn of my eagerness to protect my images, they either stop using or pay for them. In the photo, that's Athena, TV and Equanimity.
Did you see our review of Athena? Over 50 images... http://www.yachtforums.com/index.php?threads/review-royal-huismans-athena.22750/
