We are just finishing a wonderful trip from Miami to Halifax on the outside, around to PEI's (also outside), up the St Laurence Seaway, Quebec, Montreal, 1000 islands, Toronto, Great Lakes, now in Georgian Bay, then thru the North Channel and end in Mackinaw Island in 10 days. Trip has been about 4 months. Amazing but we have seen almost NO cruising boats. Cities, towns, villages, anchorages, all spectacular and empty. If you have time someday put it on your cruising list.

Interesting as taking the outside and around to Montreal is on our list of future cruises and you find very few people doing that for pleasure. Commercial traffic but not cruisers. Certainly finding marinas and dockage for larger boats is an issue on large parts of that trip but it is an area that intrigues us. Plus in our love of exploring new places by water only, seems like the way to go to Quebec and Montreal.

Did a bunch of that trip with a friend who was making the northeast loop, up the Hudson, then Lake Champlain, on out clockwise via the St Lawrence and on around. Loved the Maritimes: New Brunswick, PEI, NS. Met a guy at Liscombe, NS who was just returning from a circuit around New Foundland and touted it highly, so on the bucket list that went. Not sure my goal would be to go up the St Lawrence, but to each his own.

By "outside" do you mean you went around Cape Breton rather than explore Bras d'Or and adjacent waters? Really enjoyed that part, could have spent the whole summer, ditto PEI. We went through Canso to get there.

One YF relevant note: when we were at Charlottetown, Wayne Huizenga's Floridian (the former Aussie Rules owned by Greg Norman) was anchored off not far away. Saw the chopper come and go, and the big Intrepid tender.

Anyway, hard to go wrong on that route.

We went thru Canso and did not have time to explore Bras D'Or. We also went up the river to Liscombe Lodge. Very tight for "Grand Cru" an 80' Jongert Motor Yacht. Had a wonderful fresh caught that day, Lobster dinner. "Grand Cru" "docked" at Liscombe Lodge"

Great place there, Liscombe Lodge. We were on a mooring, but that was a Hatteras 42LRC. Did you get a chance to have some of the local smoked salmon, say from Willy Krauch ?

So when you say you went "outside" where did you mean by that, vs. "inside"? Wonderful trip, no matter what.

    Outside

Yes we did have the local smoked salmon and it was wonderful. By "outside" I mean we went from Halifax out in the North Atlantic, thru Canso, PEI, and up the St Laurence Seaway then thru the Great Lakes. We are too big to go "inside" like the Erie Canal. We are now in Georgian Bay. There is a beautiful inside channel from Parry Sound north but 40' maximum length. Went thru some in our tender. Weather today 75 & sunny, 7 knot wind, Bay was flat. Does not get better.
