P.T.Barnum said 'There's a sucker born every 11 seconds'. Sounds like it must be their mission statement. I got a real kick when I read this:
"Hams and shoulders are not packed in individual cartons. We place all the items you purchase in the smallest possible number of cartons to save on shipping costs." Yeah, that should be the concern.

When we cruised Croatia, I bought a couple of Hams like that.

    $28 bucks each.

Went back for many more. Under armed escort, as it was a bit getting shotty at the time. :(

    Don't forget the gold paper.

I saw on the today show a few weeks ago a restaurant in NY serving a $170 lobster roll. They top it with a few strands of "edible" 18K gold. Yep, one born every 11 seconds.

Fish, As you no doubt know from your days in service there as many different types of this ham as there are Owners on yachts.

These Iberico Hams are the top drawer and are expensive I have never seen one as expensive as this one though even working at the end of the business I do when money is no object to have the biggest/best or different thing that folks remember.

Let's not forget those who prefer some cheese with their ham.

Sometimes, all that glitters is gold, White Stilton Gold.

For those who associate price with quality, Pule.

    Ham

There is a shop in Palma de Mallorca on the eastern corner of the Placa de Major, specializing in selling this expensive stuff. 4.000,- Euros+, not including the stand for a complete ham. Ridiculously expensive but great stuff. But they will sell you a little sample for 15 Euros, not even enough for a sandwich :D.

    Hi,

This type of ham is not really what one would pair with cheese, it's relatives are best enjoyed with a glass of heavy red or port and are an experience in themselves as I feel when first eating a sliver that my throat has opened to a large size and I can't feel it.

Being friendly with chefs does have its benefits sometimes.

OK, granted that I'm a guy who would take a White Castle hamburger over a lobster, but this is a feakin' pig...swine. "free range" means the farmer didn't even lay out for swill, so they've eaten whatever they found on the ground. Zero consistency. I'm thinking they'd find the neighbor's overflowing cesspool very appealing. IMHO it deserves to be eaten with a $100,000 bottle of wine and filmed as a comedy special about how stupid some people with too much money can be.

I think we're all in the wrong business. :D
Reminds me of what George Carlin once said: 'If you put two pieces of wood together in away people haven't done it before, some fool will by it'. But it's still just two pieces of wood, and this is still just a pig.

Yes it is. I can guarantee that you would get no more enjoyment from that than I would a White Castle Hamburger for about $0.75, and both are history in about 2 bites.

There is a difference between appreciating highest quality food and decadent feasting.

This type of ham with a glass of great red wine may be at the border between the first and second of the above, whereas a 5.000,- Euro portion of Beluga Caviar with a glass of Champagne, at 2500,- Euro per bottle and truffles at 100,- Euros per gramm is IMHO DECADENT!

Old Phart is right, Beluga Caviar are only salted Fish eggs and Champagne may be great tasting but is only expensive spargling wine from a specific area in France. 2500,- Euro per bottle is ridiculous.

Things like sending the chef with the private jet all over Europe to buy Beluga Caviar and some other exclusive food (out of season!!) for a party on the megayacht in the evening, do happen and are part of the megayacht charter business.

Money makes the world go round but this is stupid and decadent feasting, period.

    Too funny.

Sturgeon are in the Great Lakes.

    Wet a line.

Perhaps you will be rewarded with a diamond bounty,

a 100 year old albino Sturgeon.

    P.S.- True the Caspian Sea is a bit more salty;

    but it's still a sturgeon. :D

A few nights ago I watched a loud, maybe 40' Cigarette pull into the dock with a big, brassy and rather ugly blond aboard (but she looked good from a 1/4 mile away). Then the boat's owner stepped off. He was about 5' nothing, balding, fat belly and a big stogie in his mouth. I draw the same conclusion from both these examples. Money may by decadence, but it can't buy class or character nor make a person less stupid and ridiculous. Anybody who would pay that for a ham (or the caviar) is just a fool trying to impress people not worth impressing, and it appears some may agree:

    “Sales statistics
On sale since November 14, 2013
    • Repeat purchase : insufficient repeat purchase data, the product has been on sale for less than two years.
    • Returns : return data not significant, the product has been on sale for less than two years, or hasn't reached the minimum sales target.”

    Still, every 11 seconds....
