I realize I am asking a lot of questions here, but I'm simply lost. If I knew how all of these things worked, I could assess if it is broken, or just operator error. Anyway, my boat has a SeaWolf windlass on it. There is a large push-button switch at the helm of the flybridge that once pushed and held, it operates the winch to reel in the anchor. There are two additional (foot operated) switches at the bow, starboard of the windlass. One is covered with a metal plate on a hinge, the other is not. The one that is covered seems to raise the windlass once pushed. The other does nothing. I went into the v-berth and opened the cabinet just under the windlass to find that the switch that does nothing has had the wires clipped. My questions are: 1. Is the switch with no wires supposed to lower the anchor? Or, did it go out and was replaced by simply cutting another hole and installing a new switch? 2. What lowers the anchor? I have released the "catch" on the windlass and can't seem to make it freespool.
The other one lowers the windless. It probably stuck on and they cut the wires. They do that. They are fairly cheep. Check defender or west marine.
Have you also released the clutch - that funny looking thing on the end of the warping drum? http://slspares.co.uk/images/seawof//Seawolf.jpg
