Hi All: Just bought a 2001 404 last fall. Are there any issues I should be aware of on this boat? It has Gas 7.4 Merc EFIs, 340 hrs on it. The gel coat seems really faded, and having it polished and waxed this spring as well as battery bank redesigned for separate house / starter bank….did not like the original design of that. However the interior has lots of room and need advice on how to convert and remove the old Tube style TVs to flat screens?
Welcome to the forum! I did a lot of shopping before buying my Carver and am very happy so far, although still a newbie myself. But yes, you get a lot of room on the Carvers and they are truly comfortable. I can't advise you on your model, but I do advise you to ask a lot of questions here, and expect a lot of useful advice in return! But you may want to use the search feature, as many, many subjects you will probably find of interest have already been discussed at length. Do your homework here and you'll learn a tremendous amount about your boat and gain some new friends! Congrats on your new vessel.....post some pics!
Hi Carver 38: Thanks for the welcome…. I am trying to do my homework, that is why I am here. The reason I post this thread is because I am shocked that I cannot find anything 404 specific on here?
As for the tube type tv's I replaced all of mine with led. I bought mounts that install on the side of the opening and position the tv over this hole. I was able to use the old hole for the tube tv for storage. A wine cooler is behind the tv in the salon. Worked out very well.
Do you have any pics? A mount that fits on each side of opening would be pretty big for a small Tv like that would"t it? Pics would hlp… Also am thinking of mounting a TV on wall in aft cabin but haven't figured out how to wire it from behind so wires not visible, or mounting bracket not sticking out through other side. Anyone done this yet?
I have someone compound and wax the topside twice a year. Caver does not shine like a Sea Ray if you keep it under the shed away from the sun it will hold up alot better.
The wine cooler fit perfect in the hole. On the other 2 in the staterooms I made storage for cloths behind them.
I have since installed black lex an to the bottom of the tv to cover the hole so you can't see the bottom of the wine cooler. On the 450 there is a large area behind the tv to run all the wires. The hardest was the masters. I wanted to have HDMI feeds to all the tv's instead of coax so I had to run all those from the satellite. That took some real thinking and about 3 hours. Really worth it though.
I remember that on the 355 I had. It was actually access for the water pump. It did help in running wires though.
So Monepit you had a 355 and got the 45 voyager stairs on the aft cabin can be a pain. I think if I was to go bigger a 45 voyager is the best move the 53 and the 57 might be just a little to much. What do you like about the voyager compared to aft cabin I guess the stairss would be first on you list?
Hi Sam 356..... You have any pics of any Tvs or Stereos? Also.... Has anyone installed a flat screen on the aft cockpit? I would like to see where the best place to route cable to there would be?
