I've read various comments about using 5200 for certain applications and using 4200 for others.

One of my first priorities after removing the shrink wrap(hopefully soon!) is to caulk the entire rub rail. The caulk is peeling off in several areas and I feel it may be the cause of a minor leak in the salon. A dock neighbor insists I should use 5200. I am a little leary having read how difficult it is to remove and am thinking I will use 4200.

    I appreciate any advice!

5200 is permanent. If you ever need to remove the rub rail I would use 4200 same end result.

What material are you caulking? Are you just laying a bead over a seam or rebeding?

If you're talking about the seem between deck & hull I'd use the 5200. If you're talking about the screws holding the rubrail to the hull I'd use 4200. If you're talking about running a bead along between rubrail and hull I'd use 4200. 5200 if it'll never have to come off, 4200 if it ever might.

I'm just running a bead between the rub rail and hull mostly.

"5200 if it'll never have to come off, 4200 if it ever might" I like that quote and is pretty much what I was thinking.

    Thanks for the input!
