45ft Saltwater Sport Fishing Yachts

    Hi, I am in the process of searching for a used sport fishing yacht. I am looking for something in the range of 40' to 50', 2004-2008. needs to be a brand that is well known to build a reliable product (not a custom yacht). I need your advice which brands I should be concentrating on? I have run into many Rampage yachts, what are your thoughts on them in particular? Need to consider reliability, price, performance, comfort and amenities. I prefer flybridge yachts not express.

    I'd recommend a 47 or 48' Cabo above and well beyond all else. My second choice would be a Viking, I believe they built a 48' FB during that time period......Rampage's are fairly well built, not the best layouts and they don't do too many FB boats.

    I wouldn't disagree with the suggestion, but sometimes a disclaimer should be included... CaptJ is a delivery captain for Cabo. ;)

    Cabo's are decent boats, not my favorite, mostly because I remember seeing one of 'em scuttled buy the company after a media sea trial went terribly wrong. The interior broke loose from the hull and superstructure.

    I haven't run a Cabo for Cabo in over a year nor a Hatteras for Hatteras. Not to say that I won't in the future. I have never heard of one that was scuttled nor one that the entire interior broke loose. That being said they are a very well built boat from the fiberglass work to the wiring to etc. I have delivered them all over the world....including a little 35' FB from Fort Lauderdale to Placencia, Belize.

    There are not very many Flybridge choices in the 40-50' range, that the OP is seeking. In fact I can only think of the few I mentioned.....in a true sportfish that is NOT a custom build. Egg Harbor built a 50', but I was not overly enamored with it. It's a pretty good riding boat but the COG is too far foward on it and some of the interior design so-so and quality is average. They crack the rear engine room bulkhead on those and the 58' Davis'. Bertram only builds 51' + in a FB, Hatteras 50' +, Viking built something in the size range in that era and would be my second choice....Post built a 50' and it's a good boat overall, but not as bluewater in a really rough sea as the Cabo or Viking IMO.....but also at the very top of his size range.......what else is there? In that size from a well known builder? Your choices expand greatly when you jump over 50'.

    Hello Ziad. There are a lot of great sport fishing boats. Bertram, Cabo, Viking and Hatteras are probably the leaders. Other good boats are Tiara and Luhrs. I own a 2008 39 ft Betram 360 in El Gouna and the boat has never let me down. In the 40ft range I would advise an Open or an Express boat which will provide you with lots of cockpit and deck space. If you want an additional upper helm station you might consider obtaining an Express boat with a tower. A flybridge becomes balanced and well proportioned in the 50ft range. If you are buying a used boat from the US you will face a problem with adapting the boat to the local 230VAC system. I would advise searching for the boat in the Middle East or Europe. You will find some good used sport fishing boats in Lebanon, Italy and Greece. Do a search on yachtworld, it will definitely provide you with a good starting point.     Very curious what year this was? We never scuttled a boat while my family had the reigns (Founding until Feb 2006)

    Scuttled was the wrong word. It was quickly whisked away, following FLIBS a few years ago.
