Want to replace toilet in aft cabin 1988 3807. Old piston operation. Can anyone tell me what's best in the $500 or so range? Or what is best? Thanks your replays!
I second the vote for marine elegance! We installed one in our previous carver 28ft. That boat was totalled by sandy and we salvaged the barely used toilet and plan to upgrade our current carver with it this spring. The installation is pretty straight forward and the guys at raritan are very knowledgeable and helpful.
But guys, Nobody's in the $500 range. Sad part is, todays nice, fancy, electric, quiet thrones are not cheap. Old clunky PHE's and Par's electric bases are in that range and are at be$t; reef material. It's a shame that a need of life (good throne) has to cost so much on board.
Not true. You can find those toilets offered for under $500 on the web. http://www.hodgesmarine.com/mobile/product.aspx?ProductCode=RAR220HF01202 That is why I mentioned them. Plus they are a very good head.
Well ya got me. No thrills, fresh water, nicely discounted (I'll look at that site again). But d#$, that's $till a tall buck to throw down for a throne.
Thanks Cap! Being a new boat owner ( and live aboard) it's great to know there is knowledgable people out there to help with my endless questions! I will keep you posted when new privy installed. Eugene
Rcrapps, Still a tall$ to throw down for a throne. Not when wife doesn't like the " chugga-chugga" of the old throne! I believe technology has come along way in last 25 years inre: thrones, pumps, Electronics(especially). If you want to add value to your boat it's things like the toilet, replacing old piston pumps with electric auto level pumps, LED lighting and , of course, the electronics. What else?! Ya feeling me? May not add a lot of value but gonna make living aboard easier! Eugene
Defender website has good prices We bought ours at defender.com and paid less than $500 and the price this year has gone down.
I would also recommend the Marine Elegance. I had 2 on my last boat and loved them. I have vacuflush now and hate them but they work. If I have to repair them, they're being replaced the the marine elegance.
Replacing a head I had vacu-flush on my Roamer and would take it back in a second. This Carver 380 (1995) has a Crown head that is having problems.Would you recommend the elegance?
The ones I installed connected to my freshwater system. No pump, just a solenoid valve. They have a raw water version that does have a pump, and another version that has both a fresh water and raw water option.
Put one of the Elegance heads in the aft head. Love it, super quiet. We bought the fresh/raw water unit. In the marina use fresh water, when anchored out for a while switch to raw water. Bob
I used to be in a lake where the water wasn't the nicest smelling and my head would smell terrible when I arrived each weekend. I switched to a fresh water model then. When I bought my last boat I kept the fresh water because I could carry 600gallons of fresh water. Now I have a water maker so I still use just fresh water. Advantages of fresh water flushing: It's quieter. The raw water pump is loud/ they all are. Not a big deal unless you flush in the middle of the night. It's cleaner. If you get algae in the little holes under the rim it impacts the flushing and ability for the flush to clean the toilet and it can smell. As to the elegance. It flushes better than anything. Not to be too graphic but when you flush, it rarely leaves anything behind. The vacuflush I have now cannot say the same.
Raritan I replaced both of my pumps with Raritans. haven't had a problem since. I replace the Joker Valves about every other year. Good luck with your re and re
