    Greetings new "C" series owners!

I'm looking for fellow "C" series owners to ask and answer questions and for general "C" series discussions. I would love to hear from you! I have my likes and dislikes of the new C34 and would like to compare notes with you. If we team up on options that we would like Carver to offer there is power in numbers. For instance - a built in barbecue is offered on the C40 but not the C34. The area looks about the same size on the C34 so why don't they offer that option?

    Cheers!

Here ya go. She's still in Oakland having work done. She just got her radar arch and electronics. Next is a 3k wat inverter/charger system, rod holders mounted on the back of the flybridge and some other odds and ends. I'm also taking out the transom seats in the cockpit to make room to fish. If I had another $500k I would have bought a sport fisher. I think this will do OK in the coastal waters. I took her for a spin in some chop and she is solid. She doesn't cut through the waves quite as sharply as my SkipJack but she is a lot more comfortable and much more stable with the extra beam. Oh, and she's new with a warranty and an extended warranty that covers everything!

Thanks Mystic. Are you happy with your Voyager? That's a lot of boat and a very good looking boat too.

I can't get my picture to post as part of my signature.

Oops, sorry about that. I thought the pic looked like the Voyager. I'm new to Carver. Regardless, it's a good looking yacht and it looks like a handful. It amazes me how just a few more feet in length can make the overall proportions grow to such an extent. Once you go beyond 35' the price takes a huge jump too. I stuck with 35' max because I do a lot of boating in the delta. The sloughs can get pretty narrow. You can spend weeks exploring the many hundreds of miles of sloughs and little delta towns. I can also go out under the Golden Gate bridge to the coast so 35' seemed about the right size for doing both.

I'm having an inverter/charger system networked to the genset. Once the batteries drain to a predetermined point the system will turn the genset on. When the batteries are sufficiently charged it will turn the genset off and go back to batteries. Very cool system but **** it's expensive!

    Happy Boating Mystic!

that sounds very interesting.. i am very familiar where you boat.. use to live in Lodi and Concord and worked in the bay area.. need to be watchfull going out under the golden gate when tide is outflowing some really large waves can occur there... may go out when its clam and come back to find 10 footers or more..

Hey! A home town boy. I was born in S.F. and lived on the peninsula all of my life except for a much too short two years in the 17 mile drive in Monterey. I loved living in the 17 mile drive as a kid and getting lost in the forest for the better part of a day until I stumbled out on a road that I recognized, but I digress.

Ya I've been out of the gate a few times in my 25' SkipJack. It was never a problem for that boat. The Potato Patch. All boaters talk about that. Anyways, thanks for the heads up, I'll tread carefully.

    Cheers,

I started the purchase process in October and wrote them a check in early January. It was delivered to Sausalito in mid Jan and has been in Oakland getting electronics ever since. I hope to take possession February 26th. It's been a long process.

Sounds like you have a big week this week. Hope all goes well with the new purchase. Did you get the rocket launchers installed yet?

    Hey Nomad,

Ya, They got them installed and they look great. I finally took possession of the boat and nothing works. The gas tank meters, water level meter, depth and speed sensors don't work. The fancy inverter system doesn't run the A/C. It keeps getting a fault light. The windless doesn't work. The salesman assures me that everything will be fixed and that all new "yachts" have issues like this. All I can say is that, that's a great reason to buy used!

There is a bright side under lying in the story. It's still under warranty. Heck, when I got mine, the depth sounder didn't work, the refrigerator didn't work, generator needed a starter, shower sumps in need of repair, and I had to fork out the $$$'s.
sounds like an electrical issue somewhere in the system that can be straightened out. It is a bummer but once all the bugs get worked out it will be great.
We have a 100' house boat at our marina that is brand new and I think they had a long list of to-do's on their list also for the manufacturer.

And the boat looks great by the way!

    Good luck with it.

Thanks Nomad. I'm ashamed to say that, that makes me feel a little better BUT! I bought new to avoid these issues. There is no excuse for letting a new boat go out the door with all these types of problems. NO EXCUSE AT ALL! sorry for yelling. That wasn't at you.

Anyways thanks for the support, it helps!

    Cheers!

PS. The rocket launchers look good though!

    Hey Nomad!

Silver Seas Yachts and Carver Yachts have been very responsive and have kept a pretty constant stream of technicians coming out and working on the boat. It will all get fixed eventually. I just find it hard to believe that it is not uncommon for new boats to have multiple problems. The boating industry has always had it's fair share of flakes but I never realized just how bad it is!

Silver Seas provides one or two days of free instruction from a certified captain. I took advantage of that even though I was quite a competent captain with a 25' single screw. Going up to 36' was a bit intimidating. We worked on docking the C34 all day long. A totally different approach with a boat this size. I learned that you don't do anything quickly in a 18000 lb boat. I also fell in love with the bow thruster! What a wonderful thing thrusters are! The first day the wind was so bad that we had to cancel the lesson. He came out a week later and the wind was better. In the San Francisco bay area wind is almost a constant issue. They say if you learn how to boat on the San Francisco bay you can boat anywhere. Hey - that's what they say.

How are you doing with your boat? The 355 is about 40' LOL isn't it? How are you doing with docking the larger boat? Does it have any thrusters?

Thanks for checking in with me.

    Cheers!

Great to hear that you are progressing with the repairs.

I don't have thrusters on my boat. I found it fairly easy transitioning to the larger boat. Very easy to maneuver with twin inboards. For me, I like a challenge. Compared to getting my Private pilots license, I found this to be less stressful. Although, Tennessee river is nothing like San Francisco Bay.

Keep us posted on the progress.

Boy I sure didn't find the transition easy. I was so used to having to come in hot and slam it in to reverse just before slamming in to the dock, jumping out and catching the cleat as it was still moving forward. All because of the wind.

When I looked at my boat for the first time and realized that I was not going to be able to treat it the same way, I got really nervous about docking it. When I was working with the hired captain he told me to nudge the throttles in to gear then take them out, then in, then out.......it was driving me nuts because every fiber of my being was telling me to gun it to over come the wind. I finally got it but if it wasn't for the thrusters it would be a lot harder to deal with the constant breeze that flows through the harbor. I admire the guys in bigger yachts without thrusters who can back their yachts in - no problemo!

Hey, my stainless steel cradle for my life raft just came in the door! Got to go.

    Cheers!
