    Good day

I am joining a new vessel and the owner is changing/updating insurance .
I have been under Pantanues but due to having a incident free record and never having put in a claim , touch wood, would like to know if any one has experience , good or bad with either.

It would be aprox another $2500 to bring pantaneus liability inline with ace.

    Thank you in advance .

    Ace
    $3,100,000 Hull Value
    $10,000,000 liability limit
    $22,509 (annualized)

    Pantanues
    $3,600,000 Hull Value
    $3,000,000 liability limit

    $20,500

    Hi,

I think you would be best to discuss with the Owner and or his appointed Legal or other Representative what the advantages/dis advantages of either are.

It might help sway the deal if you spelt the name of your preferred company Pantaenius correctly before writing to the Boss.

My Dad has been a surveyor for 50 years and has worked with Pantaenius for many, many years. They are a really straight and up-front company, which is refreshing in that market. They understand yachts and owners.

    You can't quibble with that.

    Come what may!

    Yacht insurance

I work with Pantaenius for decades now and I would never change my insurance broker, just to safe 2.500 $. I you are changing the insurance, you have to look carefully to the complete package. Coverage, rates, "small printings" in the contract and very important overall service and permanent avaibility of the contact point of the insurance broker / company. Under the bottom line, Pantaenius always has been a reliable and fair partner and available when needed and that both for the boats and our crews. They are THE marine type insurance specialists in Europe.

But this (my) point of view only counts for European based boats and personal marine type liabilty issues. The USA or down under might be a totally different world. The only incident we ever had, was an uninsured yacht in Italy, which caused some damage while docking next to us. Pantaenius took care of the whole matter including the organisation of the repair and chaining the other boat for the refund of their / our costs :).

Thank you for your response , Pantaenius seems a clear winner with Ace seeming difficult when it comes to total loss.

Kiwi, I hang my head in shame, no excuse for shoddy grammer :D

That should teach me to copy and paste the brokers mail.

So in essence you're talking a difference of $491 per year when you increase the Pantaenius liability and at that point Pantaenius has more hull value insured. So for all intents and purposes equal costs. With Pantaenius having such an excellent reputation it seems an easy choice at that point. I do wonder up front why the differences in hull value? Do you have an explanation for that?

And I absolutely would go with the higher liability. If anything $10 million is low when considering some of the risks.

Yes, hang in there for your $500 bucks of savings and a box tick from the insurance salesman, you can always trust what they say.

When it comes to real life dealings, I'll go with what I know.

I was not suggesting Ace. Quite the opposite. I was suggesting pay the extra, but also suggesting increasing the liability. I would never change carriers for less than $500 savings.
