hi what is average hull thickness of 45ft yacht. ?

    I'm calculating material price.

glass fiber + resin( polyester) is about 1600 $ by metric ton.

so If I can find out 45ft yacht's hull thickness. I can measer basic material price.

and I think at that size. people will not use complex structure. just some ribs only. I think.

and If you know about whrere I can find about 45ft or over ship's blueprint plz tell me.

    Hi,

There has been quite some discussion in your previous thread questioning your approach to what could be a life changing and or endangering project.

There is a lot more to building any boat then purely the materials cost.

As much as you may be determined to do it all your self I would suggest that a bit of money spent on a Naval Architect to work out what you want and to give you an idea of what is required in way of materials would be money well spent.

There is a lot more to a successful ocean going fiberglass boat than some resin, glass and a few ribs thrown together by the ton no matter where it's built and by whom.

Hi thank you. Hmm Actually I'm too good to be real. I'm genius. so most of my Idea may treaten other. when I was kids. I though I was wrong. but when I got after president prize at Korea's game industry. people keep lowering me. and so after I keep world's top ranking about my specialty. still people try to underestimate.

so now I'm free. I'm incredibly fast and efficient. and totally genius about engineering stuff.

so in this case. I made some theory.

    1. If I know basic material price. I can measure. at least minimum price of work. - this is limit base money of my works-

    2. If material cost is very low. (like just 10kUSD as I assume now) I can make it several time with low money. but left thing is how to make it.

    3. making cost money is caused people's wage and my experience. so It's very important hiring cheap people and making several yacht as possible.

    4. and prototype will be bashed for testing purpose. having it is bad choice. I must break it until engineer agree this structure is safe.

    for these kinds step.

I must calculate basic material price, and I need hire cheap people. and I need to test my result hull with some method.

but most of all I'm engineer and retired so I need good place to make it as full of joy.

    so I'm so differ.
    ---------------------

And thank you for your recommend about Naval Structure. but. It's not my job . of course I will study it and I keep studying structure engineering but I'm not good enough. I need man for that.

I had invent so many things so I can invent something great at this chance. I considering automatic shipbuilding . currently I studying and making CNC, 3D printer kind of stuff. I'm very positive.

-There is a lot more to a successful ocean going fiberglass boat than some resin, glass and a few ribs thrown together by the ton no matter where it's built and by whom.- and this is about the experience of making boat. yes I know. but joy come from making it. not arguing it or just studying it.

so I must make many ship as possible. but not like others I just do it by joy. Making is my big joy.

I'm not an expert on Korean social customs, so I don't know, maybe the above passage would convince people to listen to you. In English speaking countries that variety of argument is roundly mocked. If you want to convince someone that you are smart you have to say smart things, and not say stupid things. If you tell them that you are smart, they will conclude that you are incapable of showing them.

I don;t know how you expect to shock people with your genius ideas when you don't know the basics of what you are trying to do. How could you know that your idea will work when you don't even know what you are trying to do?

Believe it or not, the boat building world is not full of idiots. There have been many many many very smart people over the millenia involved in making boats and ships. It is still possible to improve boats, it will always be possible. But it is highly unlikely that you are going to find some low hanging fruit. No matter how smart you are, you need to know about the subject matter to use intelligence on a problem.

I find it hard to believe that a "genius about engineering stuff" would not realize that there is a lot more to this than hull thickness and price per ton of the material...

What material anyway? If you are trying t build a conventional laminated fiberglass hull, you re going to have to build a mold which is a huge expense for a one off build. Or you can use other techniques like cold molding or using cores and in that case the price per ton is meaningless

If you insist on the un-genious like per ton approach, 3/4" thickness for the bottom is probably as good a start as you ll get and 1/2" average for the sides...

As to your plan of using unskilled cheap labor, well good luck with that... Fiberglass is a little more technical than masonry, it doesn't take much to ruin the materials and the whole project.

I think the most telling and profound statement this OP has made is this: "Hmm Actually I'm too good to be real." Were he truly a "genius" he'd have long ago realized how ill-conceived this whole idea is and how little he knows about what's involved in building a yacht. Now that he's talking about building in glass, I haven't even heard a question about building a mold. There are so many good 45' boats looking for new owners that this whole thing makes no sense to me at all.

    Hi,

Remember this guy is not using his native language.

Try going on a Korean BB and explaining what you want in Korean.

The responses will no doubt be interesting if you can understand them.

So... in this forum all interest in about other's IQ? right? or he is lie or not?

Your people is just ugliest creature.

What are you afraid of? why? Are you so jealous I'm genius? or I can afford hire 2 engineer and other crew?

No single creature told me exact data. just these creatures told me and keep arguing me.

What do you want from me? What is matter with my own ship building?

You never saw genius in your life. it;s okay. but why I should lie about myself?

so did you ever touch fiber glass or welding touch in your life time??

Sick of these kind of low level creature.

Why just admit you all are ugly and useless ? and just tell me I envy you.

I envy P_Bear. I hope to get 45m yacht. I hope to hire engineer.

    Just admit. ugly creature.

    ------------------

    and what the..

Why all these creature keep acclaim . they know better about Korea , CHina and even me.

Do you ever ever meet me? or visit CHina?

anyway. in these ugly behavier. you got nothing. you piss yourself up. I still look for good way my own 45m ship.

you can keep fight on this forum . so keep this life.

    Adio.

Well P. Bear I guess you told this "creature" off. To answer your question about what we're afraid of, the answer is wasting our time. Since you seem to be laboring under the impression that you know English well, let me set you straight. What you know about the English language equals what you know about boat building Mr. Genius. Good luck to you. I'm on to other projects.

I expect that the admins don't want anyone threatening to sue sticking around. But to continue, imagine someone came to you and asked how many lines of code a program would take. But, they never got around to learning about things like different programming languages. You can estimate man hours from lines of code, but a program written in fortrans is going to be very different from a program written in python.

I'm sure he'll be gone soon, once an administrator has the chance. For those who said my post in the other thread and my use of the word "arrogant" was too harsh, would you like to reconsider that now.

Surely this person is just a provocateur. I'd hate to think this is all real.

Well, sorry you think I was wrong. But I believe I was just seeing him as he was perhaps a bit sooner than some others. Now he has proven me to be right.

I find his attitude toward shipbuilding to be insulting to every professional marine architect, designer, and builder and even to the skilled labor that builds the boat itself. Now if he was talking about building himself a twelve foot wooded rowboat, that would be far different. That is how many in the industry got started. But ultimately he's rejected every piece of advice and been offended by anyone questioning anything he's doing. You can't teach the man who already knows everything.

Now hopefully a moderator will soon remove this entire charade.

Perhaps we noticed; but thought it better to give some more rope (slack) and let him hang himself, while being polite, in our posts - new year and all that stuff. ;)

With his excellent sense for realistic approaches I hope not to meet him on the water, even though chances are rather low.

If you want to build a serious yacht you should discuss these things with the right professionals. While there are many professionals from the yachting business here you will most probably find not so many naval achitects here. Maybe that fellow should move on and insult the fellows at boatdesign.net. The fellows over there love guys who know everything and want to reinvent the wheel, just as much as we do.

If you´re still absolutely clueless about a project and want some advice it´s allways a priliannt idea to insult those who tell you that your approach to the project is probably less promising...

On the other hand there is nothing wrong about asking rough guesstimates questions to see if something is feasible before jumping in with consultants and professionals.

But when you do that calling yourself a genius is definitely an invitation not be taken seriously.

And when you first ask about a 45 FEET boat and then your next post mentions 45 meters... It s kind of confusing and ironic for a coding genius who should now that something as small a comma or period makes a difference.

Well, maybe he programmed the Obamacare website which would explain both th deep pockets to afford a custom 45 meter and the sloppy programming :)
