I've been wanting to brag on my kats. I have some funny pictures also to share. I'm sure others would like to chat about their on-board pets & friends also.
Here is our 4 legged vacume cleaner. Tiger is always (always) hungry. He weighs around 20lbs now and is now in charge of ships security.
I have a black lab. there is hair everywhere, it is in the engine room even though the dog has never been in the ER......
We have 2 Pugs and 4 cats at home but our boat is a "Pet Hair Free Zone." rcrapps, that's a great pic of your vacuum cleaner.
Tigger, that orange eating machine, use to belong to Josie’s father till he passed, we took Tigger in almost 4 years ago. We learned not to feed Tigger in the morning when were underway. BeamRolls make him seasick. Taking slop head-on like in an inlet is no problem. As soon as the ship turns away from the inlet and starts to roll, He gets sick. At the dock, he snatches mullet out of the water for a snack. As in Pooh Bear, it's spelled; T I double-G ER Below, he's already on dock watch over the stern.
The two old kats, Meko & Zoë, my current wife had when I moved in. Meko was 20 and Zoë is near 17. Zoë has been on-board since Josie moved us on 8 years ago. Meko was in charge of security at the old house and did not move on board till the house was empty 7 years ago. We are down to 3 now. Couple of months ago our Meko kat went down. 20 years old and near 20 pounds before he got ill. Meko (black with white sox) maintained security and semi retired when Tigger came on-board. Between the two of them, no bird, other critters and most strangers were not allowed near Bertie (da boat). Zoë is our anti-anti-gravity device. She keeps the couch, bed and pillows from floating aweigh. She is our nurse, never far when you down with a bug or hangover. She also inspects the anchor when we hook up.
And finally Zelda. The spoiled monster. I call her spot. Zelda was a friend helping a friend (fail) deal. She has been onboard 5 years. And like my second wife, she can't shut up unless she's sleeping and even then, when she moves or rolls, still has something to say. They all have cruzed the St.Johns River, Da Ditch, lots of offshore runs and 2 Bahamas trips. They watch carefully for any bird or boat that comes near and keep check on the anchor.
The pom tail? She was shaved then, Josie left the pom. I'll try to find some pics. She always seems like the lil Innocent angle. She's a witch.
Swimming cats? Ran across this… at first seems a bit cruel… but in the end it turns out they're teaching the cat to get back in the boat! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLOLWY9RDxE
That's Sansone "temporary" on board an Ikea cart, nevertheless entitled to be in this thread, assuming he is always with us on board, since 2010, when we rescued him from the shelter
I was in a nice wine bar, where the owner is one of his best clients, when a funny guy came in followed by a pack of 3 dachshunds; when I asked the names of the pets he answered me: " Wafer, Strudel and Krapfen, while Sacher is at home with my wife". That's why when we found this girl we decided to name her "Nutella" (crossbred of Wirehaired Pointing Griffon and some Italian Hunting Dog). By the way she hates swimming. The other in the photo is Sansone, the Ikea fan.
One of the benefits from what Josie & I do; We visit a few docks and meet allot of people with pets. Big/little dogs, cats, birds, ferrets and 2 years ago a pair of otters. One otter is a domesticated pet. The second one came out of the river and started to play with the first one. You can pet and play with the pet otter, the wild one will wait at the waters edge 15 feet away. Then the two will scurry up the rivers edge and play. At night the wild otter will go on it's way, the pet back on board. Not an issue, both critters know where/how/when to go. A few days/week later, the wild one will return for a day and disappear again that night for a while (week) more. Oh, the owners neighbor has a small dog on-board. Best friends with the pet otter. It took a year before the wild otter let the lil dog near. The lil dog is the only thing that can get close. The pet otters owner can not get close either. I think it's better that way and nobody pushes that 15 foot buffer. The lil dog had always helped keep an eye on the otters and I near break a rib holding my laughter when I watch all of this. We moved that fall and lost track of the otter antic. I trust all is still well. The fun and adventures nature provides on a crowded dock.
