    One of the MY I really liked at the show was Maritimo M45 for a few reasons:

    - probably the most open and spacious layout I've ever seen in this size (48'7 LOA, 15'4 beam
    - very big and comfortable staterooms and head, especially for family with kids (the guest room comfortably sleeps 4)
    - impressive standard enclosed flybridge
    - teak cockpit bigger than older M48 with standard SW washdown
    - great fuel economy (with either pod or shaft drives), with over 0.7mpg at cruise or 1.9mpg at trawler/hull speeds.

    I was looking at mostly Sportfish but they showed me the fishing set up on this MY with optional swim platform rails and rocket launcher.

    Any experience/ comments on fishability of Maritimo MY?

    Can't comment on the fishability, but my wife and I looked at a lot of boats on Saturday, and this was perhaps her favorite (though she also liked their 50 as well).

    My guess is you wouldn't use it for fishing. :)

    What other boats would you compare to the Maritimo lineup?

    The other boat you could compare it to would be a Riviera - these boats seemed to be also aimed at the "island hopper crowd", you could go for a fish, but there mostly focused on keeping the family entertained at anchor. If your ok with stepping away from the S/F, maybe have a look at the Palm Beach series - gorgeous things!

    If you want to have something more focused on fishing and better in the sea keeping department you might want to stay with the American brands. Friend got a Hatteras 54 that seems to be pretty good - the cockpit could be a bit more userfriendly though (his words). It also seems to be a trend over there for the American builders and they won't move away from. Cheers

    Uniesse Open and Cayman Yachts from Italy are also to consider in my book if you are looking also for express type boats. Uniesse used to have a Fly range a decade ago with a mix of sportfish looks and aft deck design with nice interiors.

    The Uniesse have superb seakeeping.

    From the US I would have a look at Silverton (though I dont know what quality levels they have nowadays), and may be Tiara. I think Tiara just manages to make it 50 fishing 50 cruiser in my book, in both the Open and Flybridge series.

    Flybridge wise I would look in this order; Tiara, Riviera, Maritimo, and Silverton.

    Far, what is "Palm Beach series"? I do regret not stopping by Riviera section at the recent boat show. I was all over the SF boats. Hatteras 54 still was and is my "favorite" SF. They just started making them a bit more family friendly by adding mezzanine seating for instance. I just wish they open up the salon more like Silverton, Maritimo and Riviera did in their 45-53 MY by adding windshield. I think Bertram already has this option.

    Yes, I looked at Tiara and Silverton and like them both.

    Tiara 4800 is very nice entry-level SF, pretty much everything I need.
    Silverton 43 that I have seen has a great layout for Convertible and very economic engine packages. I've not heard much about it's ride and fishability. It seems to be very light and not as solid as Hatteras and Tiara.

    Seriously???? I ran a new 55' Uniesse (with arnesons) from Fort Lauderdale to St. Maarten about a year ago. The boat was brand new and everything in the world broke on the delivery. Things I couldnt even imagine breaking. The boat was the worst riding 55' I have ever ran, it pounded in a 2' chop and we were slowing down from cruise in 2' seas or more. The only thing I can compare the ride to was an older 13' Boston Whaler.

    I ran a 48 and 57 Open and there was nothing much which beats them in a head sea in my book. 6-7 feet chop was like nothing. A friend of myn also ran a 55 but with shafts, they sea trialed it in 5 feet seas, and was also very impressed but ended up buying an Azimut 62 S cause they gave him a much better deal.
    If I remember well someone on this forum also owned a 48 before going to a Hatteras 54, and also cited as the Uniesse as the best riding boat he had. He had but there after sales service down under Australia was not good.

    But anyways I think any good ground can make a bad crop once in a while....

    These are nice looking MY but, for the argument sake, how do you fish from them? All the other boats come set up for fishing, at least on paper. :)

    I was speaking about the Open line series (42, 48 and 57), which have an aft deck like sportfish inspired. Same as a Rivera or a Maritimo I guess. They had a sportfish option in the past, but I do not know if Uniesse still do it, with bait tank, additional freezers and some fishboxes. IMO they are more made for people who like the looks of SFs but do not fish.

    If you want a sportfish and you are dedicated for it a Tiara and a Viking would be e better choice.

    No you made me think what is better: SF based on MY or MY based on SF.

    I know of a few companies that take a hull of custom SF like Garlington and make a beautiful and comfortable SF out of it. I may just consider this option. :)

    The one I ran was a 2012 I believe and had the new MAN 800's and arneson drives. I believe the cog was way too far back and even light on fuel it didn't ride good either. We had 4 different problems on the delivery causing us to wait several days in each port for repairs. Issues I've never had to deal with before on a delivery. Many problems with the build. For example, they didn't secure the hydraulic steering hoses under the helm, they also used too long of screws in the joinery work and on the first day of the delivery 1 punctured the hose and it rained hydraulic fluid all over the guest stateroom and he threw away everything in there.....The carpet, the mattresses etc.....this was one of many issues. The hot water supply hose had a pushlock whale connector behind the joinery in the VIP that wasn't done right, it flooded the VIP with 2" of hot water. You could access the fittings and we had to totally dismantle/ruin the nightstand to access it. etc etc etc

    The Palm Beach motor yachts are more of an M/Y, but they have a great hull - good entry. But maybe too far M/Y for you. I love the Garlingtons Landeweers, my number S/F of all time, love the series that Mcmullin and Wing built a few years ago as well... and honestly would still buy one if there performance was rubbish. :cool:. I think they just brought out a 40-50' express that might be a good look over.

    That would be me Liam.
    Certainly a wonderful boat. I bought the only UNIESSE 48 Open in Australia (new),which was so overpriced to the comparable sized locally made boats that it took a while to sell me. But I had my eye on it from day one.
    Why? Because it was so superior in just about every way. High quality and AWESOME big sea ride, fast, comfortable (for a couple) and in spite of the oversized marlin board (which is part of the hull) the boat was also great for deep sea fishing, I have the photos to prove it.
    Unlike most Italian boats, the quality overall was high. But, like MOST Italian built boats, the service was NON EXISTENT and thought toward the more practical items was overlooked.
    I have written about the boat before, so I wont' repeat. Suffice to say that at an asking price of $1,500,000 for a 48' Open Express, you would expect the UNIESSE to be above the average boat.

    The PB MY looks fantastic and comes with Volvo IPS that I prefer. I just can't find the pictures of the their flybridge version. It looks like all they show on the web site is the express.
