We are upgrading the TVRO and Vsat systems on a 40 metre yacht and consequently remodeling the mast to accommodate the larger radomes. am getting conflicting information to the recommended spacing between domes. One expert tells m 3 metres minimum and another 1.2 metres minimum. I do not want to have interference between the units but 3 metres seems excessive. Is there a rule of thumb that applies to the spacing?

Have you spoken to the manufacturer of the domes? They would know best

    Radome Spacing

I have contacted the manufacturer and they have recommended the 3 metre spacing between the radomes. With e dome diameter the centres ill be 4.2 metres. I am yet to see a megayacht anywhere with domes set at that spacing. This is why I am after opinions from those in the industry.

I guess my question would be is there something that prevents you or makes you not want to meet their recommendation? Is it a width issue or something in the way? Maybe it's excessive or not necessary or maybe it just reduces a 2% probability of interference to 0.002%. You might discuss it further with them to understand why they're saying so far apart.

I guess you have not seen many mega yachts then.

Aren't the suppliers in the industry?

Ditto that. If you go against the manufacturer's recommendations who are you going to go back to if there is a problem? Even if spacing isn't the cause for a problem it'll be cited until proven (by you) otherwise.
