A new marina in Cuba!?!? A good thing?!?

Interesting, but what's the story on the embargo? I haven't heard anything since 2004. It doesn't seem to be a topic of conversation at all in U.S. political circles. With a Congress that says no to everything I can't see any changes in the forseeable future, and who intends to risk their boat.

Uh? Near masses of Americans are visiting Cuba now. It's just not front page news.

The article is dated December 2011, here it is a year and a half later and I don't see any hope in travel restrictions lifted.....but who knows.

I visited in 1998 I believe it was, for a month plus a few days, aboard a friend's 60 cat. It was an interesting experience. It was during Clinton's last years and there was real hope that things might normalize. But that was not to be, a lot of those politicians were all hungry for the Cuban vote in Fla, so things fell apart.

When is someone going to stand up and tell that little group of Cubans in Fla that we can 'defeat' Castro by just letting free economics take its logical course.

That "little group of Cubans" earned a loud voice in the Mariel boatlift and by floating across the straits on inner tubes while watching their friends and families die there. Their voice counts more than any tourist or person trying to make money. At least it should.

There is so much involved. so many good people on both sides of the fence. Too many life sucking ( F#$%^&*) politicians involved.
Can we say there are attitudes all around and wish Cuba the best. I love boating and clean water. I love the place.

How long have we maintained this STUPID foreign policy of ours toward Cuba...over 50 years maybe.

BTW, there were MANY more boat people from Vietnam than from Cuba.

Direct travel between the U.S. and Cuba is difficult. Over come this hurdle and you can be in Cuba tonight.
There are dozens of flights between Nassau, Caymans, Mexico and most of the other Caribbean and central American countries.
There is no law against a Cuba stamp in your passport.

Looks like somebody fully intends to make this a political discussion. God forbid that one place is left so close to the U.S. that can't be turned into an Atlantic City by an American capitalist. The guy making bucks is far more important than those who gave their lives. Only fools give their lives for a cause. Smart people profit from it.
Who gives a rats behind about Cuba? There are plenty of places in the area that can be reached by private jet.
My position is that I DK if the embargo is right or wrong nor if it even makes sense today, but that I don't have the right to belittle the sacrifices of the people who died so I can have another island to ruin.
And yes it is over 50 years since we almost saw the world come to an end there. By that measure I guess the Arab-Israeli conflict is meaningless also. Never mind that I'm neither Arab nor Israeli. They should do things my way.

And that Brian is exactly why the embargo still exists today, because it is still a political hot button.

Had one on mine. Rite in between the Bahamas and Honduras stamps. They were kind enough to ask but I wanted it.
U.S.Customs thought they were going to raid my cigars and tick me off until I pointed out the gars were from Honduras.
