Sad News!

My all time favorite yacht, the Bannenberg design Parts VI, later Madiblue, had a devastating fire on July 6 in Greece. She was moored and the crew got off safely, but now just the hull remains of the most influential yacht design of modern times. It is too sad...

I am afraid so, there was a picture of the wreck in a magazine.

I wish somebody could build a new yacht with exactly the same design, instead of all the ugly boats coming out these days...

Many of the Bannenberg yachts have these lines, also Sycara III. On Sycara V it seems to have been a compromise between the owners and the designer, as the overall lines are a bit messy...

She was towed out from her mooring, as it is too narrow to turn around a boat this size in there. Then she departed Lauderdale.

The canal she was being towed down fort lauderdale - Google Maps is about 110' wide and 3,300' long with no turning basin.

There are numerous marine enterprises along SE 16th St and SE 15th St including Dockwise, Sunseeker, Cable Marine, YachtZoo, Vicem, SunDance Marine, Noruvania, Lauderdale Marine, Apremare/Muestro, Burger, Bimini Boatyard, Boathouse, 15th Street Fisheries, Charberlain Yachts International, and Ferretti Group to name some.

Consequently the canal attracts lots of boat traffic including mega yachts that are moored or being serviced along the canal. Currently Namaste and Victoria Del Mar II are moored quite a ways down the canal with Starship and Mary Alice II being docked just inside the entrance to the canal making maneuvering quarters even tighter.

IMHO for larger yachts like Fortunate Sun at 177' towing is the only safe way to make it down and back such a narrow waterway especially with any wind a blowin.

In this case I do not think Fortunate Sun was under tow because she was in trouble. Rather she was being towed to keep from getting in trouble.

Definitely an ingenuity and beauty of its kind from Oceanfast Yacht designed by Jon Banenberg(late). With MTU V16 engines and KaMeWa waterjets with very low draft about 10 feet or something.

When built she had twin MTU V12 and a center MTU V8 and the draft was 4 feet.

Yes, lots of ponies, 2 x 1960hp MTU plus 1 x 1305hp MTU.

It sure does not take long and without proper firefighting equipment readily at hand you get Fire at Marina Vouliagmeni 01 - YouTube very sad.
