I'm under agreement pending survey for a 39 CPMY. The carpet is God aweful ugly and needs to be replaced. I'd like to go with a wood floor or the faux teak products out there.

Does anyone know how this stuff holds up?

What kind of costs? Can you install it yourself? How do you work it around your hatches?

    Thanks.

Are you referring to replacing the interior carpet, or replacing the exterior carpet on the deck and flybridge? Different teak alternative products are used depending upon interior or exterior.

    Eric.
I want to replace the ugly carpet in the Salon, the Aft Cabin and the forward cabin, so interior. I'll probably just go with a snap down carpet on the aft deck (enclosed). I have a chocolate lab that loves to swim, and the thought of his stinky paws walking on to interior carpet just, well... I'd be in divorce court. The NUTEAK looks nice, but I saw a video and it looked like it was for outside (cockpit)

The decking products like Nuteak, Flexiteek and Plasdeck are all intended for exterior deck use. The reason is that they have a texture to the surface to make them non skid when wet. This texture means that to clean them you will want to use a hose and brush - not very convenient in an interior application.

My current favorite interior "wood look" flooring product is Lonseal. It comes in various colors in a 6' wide sheet and is sold by the foot. Use their specified glue to install it. Defender sells Lonseal on their site.

    Plasteak for interior

    Hi Eric.
Thanks for the reply. I found Plasteak's web site. Plasteak is an interior product but plasdeck is not. I saw Lonseal somewhere with Plasteak, so it must be one in the same. Expensive stuff though. $24 a linear foot x a six foot roll. Wow. It looks good though.

I also need to replace the carpet in my Carver 355 ACMY. The entire salon floor is made up of 7 removable panels for engine access. I'm afraid if I use an aluminum trim around each panel it will look like a chess board. Also I would have panels with aluminum trim touching each other.
    Any suggestions?

Lonseal offers a color correct plastic/vinyl trim for the hatch edges. I have never used it. We try to cut the hatch opening close enough that the seam is just a small line with no trim. Your hatches have to fit tight (and not shift) for that to work. On installs where that isn't possible, we trim out the openings with 1/8" or 3/16" strips of real teak on edge. It makes a nice appearance but its a little labor intensive. Not likely a DIY by other than a very skilled owner.

In the photo there is a no trim hatch just to the right of the steps. This is maple/mahogany Lonseal.

Thanks Eric, I'll have to look into Lonseal.
