Come to find out she belonged to an Italian publisher. She was once used by the Shah of Iran in 1958 and was involved in a collision. Here's a picture from the 1950's and an article mentioning the collision.
I'm sorry but I believe that the Yacht pictured in post n° 1 is not Sereno at all- She's Calisto (ex Calisto of N.P.) Sereno is the Yacht pictured in post n° 5. Probably the two yachts were converted from the same minesweeper class. Sereno was owned by Angelo Rizzoli Sr. a prominent publisher, Touristic real estate properties and movie productor. It was reputed that in the 50's Sereno was (one of) the largest yachts in the Mediterranean Here a biography of the owner ( in english): The Florentine - article Angelo Rizzoli more about the Sereno (in italian): I Campi Flegrei su ... "Pozzuoli Magazine": Rizzoli a photo of the yacht in 1996 in Fiumicino (Rome): http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-soAAAU6m8AI/TteqqPpYEpI/AAAAAAAABCE/JFoR47Q2cJw/s1600/A8.jpg
Very beautiful and stylish old yacht. I bet, you would impress a lot of people, if it had a nice 40 mm Bofors on its foredeck.
I suspect that was some kind of 'photoshopped video' ?? That 'gun' sure looks like an old German railcar cannon from WWII. There was one of these sitting at Aberdeen Proving Grounds years ago when my father was stationed there (1950's). I was in hi-school at the time and climbed aboard it. File:Anzioanniegun.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia WW2 - German Railroad guns in action - World War Two military train - YouTube ...check out the images for "german rail cannon" on google BTW, I wouldn't what to fire a nuclear weapon from one of these, I couldn't get it far enough away from myself
No, it was real. Although I suspect some of the blast footage may have been from other tests. Good eye on the German rail gun: M65 Atomic Cannon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thank god, the awful times of cold war are over. Lets hope a little man in far east wakes up one morning and finds out how stupid he behaves. Nuclear weapons are means of deterrant and not ment for practical use, period!
I'm afraid we're getting into politics (which might be frowned upon) but though I agree with your opinion the fact remains that we're assuming rational behavior on the opposing side... Unfortunately, I'm not so convinced that players like North Korea and/or Iran can be safely assumed to be rationally behaved players... That does NOT mean that I believe that they should be preemptively nuked!... It merely means that I believe we should be alert to the possibility of them acting irrationally...
Perhaps MY YOGI would still be floating if someone had remembered the old saying, "Eliminate the problem by eliminating the source." After all, just think of all the problems (sources) over the years that someone connected to the MY CALISTO had to eliminate, to keep her floating and in her current condition. Vintage Yacht Share
Thanks for getting the thread back onto subject. I'm sorry I got it distracted...it was just that big gun. MY CALISTO is a beauty
I agree. It seems like traditional looking yacht are not as popular as the " Euro" style yachts but for me the traditionals win every time. I have no interest in the " Clay-mation" looking yachts and shake my head at many as stated in another thread by Pascal.
