Liberty, very clean cut, I was a little worried about the all white, but great call on the blue bottom coat and bootstripe.

Also, if you want, I know a great fabricator who can make the swim platform detachable - for backing down. I was going to do the same with the Bertram (hopefully soon to be).

But it's looking fantastic! Can't wait to see her in the gelcoat :D.

Also, what electronic package did you go for?

Thanks, I'll think about the detachable platform.

Electronics are Furuno Blackbox, with a TZ MFD in the cockpit. I did get the KEP screens (Furuno discontinued the 17") and I'm not sure that they were all that impressive.

Which Bertram are you looking at?

Gday Liberty, we are looking at a little Bertram 25 (link below). I couldn't let you and Kafue have all the fun out there :D.

I think the good thing about the Furuno gear is it's pretty good quality, compared to others on the market, I heard they aren't the most friendly of units, but I'd rather that then having the unit sh!t it's self after 12months (Navman/Northstar was great at that).

Are you getting AIS as well, I used that on the delivery up to Gladstone the other month, it was such a great thing to have, especially with all the tankers up there.

    Alexseal came up trumps!

I ran AIS on earlier boats, but although good at night, wasn't dramatically more useful than radar.

I've been running Furuno for over 10 years, and I know the Navnet 3D system well enough. Apart from the usual minor idiosyncrasies (and two 15 month old MFDs that got water in them), they have been very reliable and excellent quality. So I'm sticking with what I'm used to.

I also have the new Furuno TZ system downstairs in the cockpit, which will allow to keep an eye on the bottom/reef position when bottom fishing.

Supposedly the TZ will allow you to connect wirelessly to your iPad/iPhone, but I haven't tried that yet. Be nice if that's the case, to be able to watch boat position at night without having to go upstairs.

Good luck with the 25. I fondly remember my days on a 26 Southport centre console. Those were the days you could justify fishing a half day. Shoot and back, a quick hosedown/flush and you're done.

And so she has been loaded onto a container ship at Savannah, all professionally done and is steaming to the next port of call in Kingston, Jamaica later today ....

... which is exactly where Tropical Storm Sandy will impact tomorrow morning.

    Ah jeez.

Seeing as there has been so much misfortune with Sandy and much more still to come, I do not want to be too upbeat.

We did however miss Sandy by 6 hours and now through the Panama Canal. And yes, I possibly did sit up all night watching webcams waiting for the ship to pass through. I am now a fully qualified tour guide on any aspect of the Panama Canal system you wish to know. I had no idea that 27,500 people died on the project.

3 weeks to delivery in Sydney.

    Lol tour guide hey .

Good to hear that she didn't get damaged from the storm, I've been coming back from Hamo this past week and was wondering how she went. Is that her on the bow all wrapped up? Cheers

No, that's not her in the bow. At 59ft overall, she takes up the space of a 40' plus a 20' container lengthwise, three containers across and 4 high = 24 containers. More than I thought.

If you look at the photo, there is a fuzzy arrow pointing down to where she is.

She's a couple of days away from Papeete, Tahiti. Been smooth sailing in the Pacific.

    15 more sleeps. :D

Of course, container space formula... isn't it like 5 big ones for each container. Did you also happen to price up Dockwise as well, it would be interesting to compare the two....?

16 days, hopefully I'll see her on the water at Xmas!

    Keep on Schedule!

Uh Huh....the fuzzy arrow, now I see her!
Liberty I sincerely hope all goes to plan. I shipped almost the same way at similar time of year, except was 7 Star, and she off-loaded in Newcastle instead if Bris. due to the weather, or so they said. I think it was because most the on-board boats were for NSW, but there were a LOT of vessels in those days, whereas things seem to have slowed down now. So here’s hoping all goes good for a Brisbane offload.

Thanks Kafue. Being unloaded in Sydney. I think Botany? Will be there for the offload and the run north.

    Fingers crossed.

Yeah, I didn't see the arrow either,

Kafue, even know there's brand new Rivs and Searays in that shot, I still like the old school Hatt the best, Respect!

Liberty, I'm guessing it's been and gone through Tahiti...? Cheers

Well, there's a good reason you see Furuno on about 95% of all commercial ships. It works and lasts.

Thanks, considering how long ago that design was drawn, it has all my RESPECT too.
There were plenty of Sea Rays and Rivieras, coming home at half price of local stock, hence the terrible dishonest press in the local magazines about the "dangers" of buying in the US.
eg 1 : They are mainly ex sinkers!
eg 2 : They are not free title.
eg 3: They have major hidden issues because US brokers are so bad (like Aussie brokers are all angels!)
In the last 2 years every local boating mag has either an editorial or article relating to the traps and terrible dangers we dumb buyers will suffer if we don't deal locally!

    Definition of frustration.

    Fly to Sydney.

    Ship visible offshore.

Port busy and ship going backwards and forwards at 1.6kts.

    Ship now due 2 days.

And change just came thru for our 400nm run home. Big seas.

13ft seas in 54ft boat = beers in port.

    Life has its compensations.

    :)

    Gotta love boating!
You will find the right weather window.
Feel like saying try this or that trip schedule, but I know you are in no need of suggestions or help!
So see you in Moreon Bay with a coldie to say "Congrats!"
    Stay safe Mate.
