Is that a typo, or have you really seen 58 Bertrams stretched 22ft? That seems like an impossible stretch. I'd be interested to know if you had any insight on how the 58's ran after they got stretched.

The Bert 58 MYs starts life near 18 feet wide. We have one ourselves. I have studied these same boat stretched over 80 feet with two extra state rooms, head/showers, Lazerette, mezzanine, Sportsman cockpit. She looked darn good.
Not sure if it's proper to give out her name.
The beam to length ratio makes a big jump to the smart side and speed/economy can in prove.

There is another Bert 58 MY on the Left coast that added just two cabins & heads.

We have been daydreaming ourselves about just a sportsman's cockpit extension. Either a DIY kit or a salvaged rear end from a sport fisher.

I know it's smarter to take advantage of the new longer hull and re-install the running gear. Reducing the shaft angle and rudders further aft. On the 58s extensions, I'm not sure of any mods. When we win the Lotto, We will get that extension and play with pod drives on jack shafts.

I did manage an old Roamer that had a large extension tacked on. Some San Diego yard moved the rudders way back but did not move the wheels. 11 feet between wheel & rudder now. Later the rudder size was increased using large stabilizer fins. PITA at slow speed. Murder in the New River. (no thruster). Thx for good ole TD514s.

Fascinating discussion. Back in the early 80s there was an aluminum Panama City built party fishing boat in Clearwater FL that was extended (Gulf Queen) It is the only such boat I am personally aware of having been extended. Apparently boat extension is far more prevalent than I thought.

Has anyone ever heard of a Grand Banks being extended? We have a 42 classic, I always thought it would be awesome to extend the aft deck another 4-6 feet.

Wow! Thanks for posting those pictures. That is quite a project. She is going to stand tall when you're done! That is a great looking boat. I know you are still in process, but anything major you've learned along the way that would be useful to share?
