Monaco Yacht Show 2012

With all of his wonderful design ideas, one might ask... "What's Lars up to now?" Here's the answer many of us have been waiting on. The Delta 80' Fly is in build!

On the first day of the Monaco Show, we had lunch at a restaurant/bar called Stars & Bars that overlooks the port. You could say it has a million dollar view, but that would be an understatement. Apparently, this is THE place for the "see & be seen" crowd and it turns out... Lars was seen! The owner of Stars & Bars ran over with bug hugs and lots of praise for him.

Accolades aside, I was more interested in the views. Where I come from, you don't see mountains behind marinas!

I was there for dinner last night and can only describe it as a mad house post show.

Later, we made our way over to the opposite side of the port for a view of the show. These pics were taken with my iPhone, so they aren't so good. My bad, I didn't want to lug my DSLR 'bowling ball' all the way to Monaco. I won't make that same mistake again! Here's a few shots from behind the Monte Carlo Casino, overlooking the show...

I vaguely recall seeing you along the Avenue de Monte Carlo, in front of the Cafe de Paris, but maybe it was someone else who made off like a bandit with our show credentials.

These pics were taken fairly close to the show entrance. For those following the thread in other parts of the world, the Monaco show isn't anywhere near the size or scope of the Ft. Lauderdale Show, but the number of superyachts in attendance certainly outnumber South Florida shows. What makes Monaco really special is the party atmosphere that surrounds, i.e. bars, restaurants, casinos, trendy types and the price they pay for exclusivity.

I didn't take pictures along the docks at the Monaco Show. There is no purpose in showing sterns, but there were plenty of titillating transoms walking the docks. Save that for another thread!

I've got press kits inbound on some interesting new concepts that debuted at Monaco, but I would rather publish these as features in the coming days. Until then, I'll leave off with this little teaser... one of three new Palmer Johnson models on display. One of them is already in build!!!

WOW Carl...AUSGEZEICHNET!!!! So much to drool over and yes, Monaco (with or without the MYS is a definte must)...I have been to northern France several times but never to the south of France....I have seen the Med from Naples but that is the closest I have been....

BTW, the world ends cool Dec 21st, 2012, so you have a few days to spare!!!!

AMG's Delta boats are really growing on me....too bad I don't speak Swedish as I have seen some of the YouTube videos with the tall rehead driving the various Delta boats with a venegace...sure look forward to meeting all of you guys someday...

Thanks for the correction Mark. About a month ago, I bought a new keyboard about the size used on the new ultrabooks (think Mac Air!). For the past 10 years, I've used a big old honkin' Logitech keyboard that's spans halfway across my desk. I'm really having a tough time adjusting and I'm making a lot of mistakes. It would help if I wasn't a hunt & peck typist to begin with!

The new PJ is one of my show favorites, it is going to be fun watching this one as she unfolds!!

I have a feeling the first videos of her slicing through the waves are going to be totally awesome and amazing!!!

That's right, I had to look twice too, 10 passengers overnight and ensuite in an 80' package!!!

Well, you can get 10 in there with the pullman beds in the twin cabins, as well as 4 crew with pullmans in their cabins, but this will be too many in my opinion. The pullmans are there just for flexibility...

This was a PR nonsense not worth to mention...

I agree with Lars on his sentiment. Like all the extreme concepts put forward by dreamers, we are no longer covering nonsense that is used to generate buzz in lieu of something realistic. I have found when you question certain builders about authenticity of engineering and the principles upon which a design is conceived, they are quick to scuttle the conversation.

I was mainly refering to the Press Releases leading up to the revealing of the "Future Concept"...

"All Feadship owners are assured of maximum privacy and we cannot reveal the identity of this new potential client at this stage," says Francis Vermeer, head of marketing at Feadship. "However, there are strong rumours that he will attend the Monaco show in person.

"As this man is also renowned for his enormous sense of humour, this promises to be a memorable occasion for all concerned."

At this stage Feadship will only reveal that the client is 'a man globally acknowledged as an unrivalled genius in his field'. He is a 'great fan of sailing boats who is now exploring options for a Feadship motorboat that will criss-cross the oceans, enabling him to disseminate knowledge to an expectant world'. 
 


I too thought the Einstein (though the resemblance was interesting) thing was a pretty silly publicity stunt...


What sort of bugged me were the few images provided (attached to) the interview of the "radical new design" called Relativity...looks (at this point and until more images/models are shows) to be very strange...
