Total rebuild of alto volante feadship

A view of the PH while being built. The flat sides were built of marine ply...the radius corners were strip planked and the roof is balsa core. The whole structure was then encapsulated in cloth and epoxy . The window frames are s/s.

TOTAL REBUILD OF FEADSHIP ALTO VOLANTE pka TIKY

A view of the hull showing the flare at the bow - this together with the cruiser stern is what originally attracted me to Alto....plus the fact that at 62 ft she is a substantial yacht whilst still being managable as a family run yacht , but with room for a crew should the need arise

A photo of the cruiser stern - even with the ugly Pilot house she had a certain style....

REBUILD OF VINTAGE FEADSHIP ALTO VOLANTE pka TIKY - General arrangements drawings

Alto with old pilot house on passage

here are the drawings showing the revised layout compared to the original one. The main difference is that we sacrificed a tiny single-berth aft cabin on stbd in order to enlarge the owners cabin so as to be big enough to have a central double bed (instead of narrow V berths) and a decent sized owner's ensuite head with a separate shower stall. It also meant the guest cabin could be enlarged slightly so as to have 2 full length fore/aft bunk beds (both 32" wide) with the lower one extendable by a few inches to form a cosy double. We also put a fitted L shaped settee in the salon (which extends to form a full sized double) and removed the partition between the saloon and the galley (making the galley much brighter and physically as well visually linked to the saloon) and we put a small dinette seating area in the galley. the fwd cabin has its own heads and has been fitted out to the same standard as the rest of the boat making it suitable for guests or crew. As mentioned in a previous thread, the seat in the PH extends to form a full length berth 30" wide) - this "pilot berth" can be used by a guest, or by a crew thus freeing up the fwd cabin for 2 guests. The boat is intended for the private use of me and my family and/or guests - ie 6 guests plus crew (up to a max of three crew), ie she can sleep a total of 9 (max 10 if 3 people occupy the guest cabin)

yes...we are going to ship a 12ft RIB on the foredeck. We've bought a lightweight Atlas 1600 carbon fibre davit that can lift up to 500kgs but is light enough for one man to easily ship /unship in the new s/s deck fitting we built on to the stbd gunwhale (ie in place of the old cast iron davit which weve reatin on the aft deck) . When on passge the carbon fibre davit will be stowed flat in the tender. The tender can be lifted using the manual winch on the davit or we can run the lifting rope to the windlass

Wow. Seriously wow. You should be very proud. Can't wait to see her finished.

Having a removable davit is great way to maintain her lovely lines.

    What a wonderful project. Congratulations!

I have a subscription that also includes the online version.
The online version always appears at the beginning of each month.

    Exhaust stain

    Hi David,
Like all on this thread I admire your efforts and "SAND" in taking on such a big project. Always look forward to more photos.
Question: with all the detail you have gone to, have you come up with a solution to minimise the exhaust stain on the aft port side that is seen in the pre-new pilothouse photo?
    Cheers
