Like you said...who knows..... this accident really makes me said...in a selfless way - i have and had absolutely no connection with her, owners, yard, anything... She was a beautiful vessel, albeit to large for my personal tastes...

But to see the vide of her going down really was a powerful image...

I was also saddened (again without any personal link) by the death/suicide of one of the yard owners shortly after - which most probably had some relation (maybe only due to stress, or whatever), maybe i'm nostalgic, but she was supposed to bring leisure and happiness, and took a turn for the worse...

thankfully the crew wasnt harmed. it is upsetting than the real cause of the accident may be left untold due to politics...sickening really...who knows what can happen next time...(lets hope there isnt one), but there are always lessons to be learnt!

I don't know if you guys read elsewhere in the internet about a misterious package sent to a magazine with the CV's of the crew at Yogi. Apparently the engineer onboard was particularly unprepared for the job, and most where not experienced with that boat. But of course whoever sent that package could have been trying to distract attention from other aspects. I hope the case gets solved, because many people including myself feel right now that something is not working with yacht regulations and supervision. A lot of theory, but then one of the best yachts (supposedly) sinks and nothing happens.

Not wrong Felipe, then what about the yacht Ocean One... a piece of timber got wedged in the impeller (one of the intakes I'm guessing)... Just a mention, this yacht also came from the same yard...?

The difference here... the information seems to be available...?

True, it's from a new yard - Oceandro, the way it read sounded like it was from Pantaenius. Originally when I first skip through the article, it sounded like it was from the yard that Yogi was from.

    That sinking feeling?

Read that another Proteskan boat sunk recently in France. Hopefully no conspiracy theories here!! Like the rumour about the owner of Yogi making very large claims for valuable artwork that went down with the boat.

A 27m yacht sank just 200m from Paloma Beach near Nice

    Vals II

French Police have launched an investigation after an anchored super yacht sank just 200 metres from the shore near Nice. Four people were aboard the 27-metre (88ft) Vals II when it started to take on water, but all crew and guests managed to escape before she went down off Paloma beach.

Trapped air kept her bow above the water, and the Gendarme Maritime of Nice and Municipal Police from Saint Jean Cap Ferrat placed floating booms around the scene to prevent possible pollution from the estimated 6,000 litres of fuel aboard.
Vals II was built in 1995 by Istanbul-based Proteksan Turquoise and is reported to have recently had her interior completely refurbished.

"It was about three o'clock in the morning when, due to a leak, probably at one of the engines, our yacht quickly filled with water", said one of Val II's crew. "Although we operated two large bildge pumps, we couldn't manage to stop the flood".

I'm certainly not a fan of conspiracy theories, but two sunken boats and the CEO shot dead (killed or suicide) in between are not the kind of credentials people appreciate when they spend many millions on a yacht.

The second sunken boat was built 16-17yrs prior to Yogi... hardly good fuel for a conspiracy theory.....

    To wait until mid-december

The preliminary report as such has been completed mid-october. Then the investigation board granted the parties a one month consultation, which is still running now. So we have to wait until mid-december for the final publication...

    Hi,

I think if something was completed mid October and a months delay given for it's release then the release would be mid November from what I can tell with the Calendar I have on my wall.

If I am mistaken, please tell me where to get one of those calendars, it could help immensely with delivery dates :)

I am feared the original report may look bad for the builder, yard & crew. How else could it read? Black Hole theory?
This one month consultation delay could be those involved getting the PR, Legal, and scape-goats lined up.

Could we start a pool here before the release of the report?
Who gets the largest blame & da knife?

    Crew 1
    yard/warranty paint 0
    build/design 0

    1:0 for K1W1 :D

You have a very accurate calendar. But there is even a source corroborating what I have been told:

    "8 octobre 2012 - Enquête YOGI :

Rapport préliminaire en cours de finalisation.
Prévision de début de phase de consultation des parties intéressées début novembre (environ un mois).
Prévision de diffusion du rapport définitif, sur ce site, mi-décembre 2012."

Found on the BEAmer (Bureau d'enquêtes sur les évènements de mer) homepage under "Actualités".

Why does it appear that they simply don't want to talk about it?

Marmot, because they don't want to talk about it. This case is a textbook example of the weaknesses of the system, designed by them, among others. The perception of high security goes out the window without an outside factor to blame (the bad wheather of that day falls clearly within predictable territory). Everything points to the crew training and response, but that is a weakness in itself. There are ways to minimize those risks.
