    Hi,

    I came across this video after checking out the yacht fires video.

    I think this skipper is a nit wit.

    Or maybe it is just a perspective thing but it sure appears like he runs a 6 or 8 knot boat right across the bow of an oncoming ship.

    I can't imagine being in that much of a hurry.

    I only speak english and therefore don't know what they are saying but it seems like a pleasant conversation as if it is common to cruise in front of a vessel big enough to run you over and not even feel it....

    I wouldn't be surprised if there was a moorings logo on that sailboat!

    Or maybe they thought it was a floating building, not a ship. Doesn't look like a ship!

    Sunday, June 21, 2009, returning from the city of Porec (Croatia) sailing with distinctness Caorle (VE) we cross the passenger ship CARNIVAL DREAM with Panamanian flag, gave us priority since the weather (strong wind and sea format), congratulations, it is very difficult and rare that a great ship behaves so.

    also, looking at the bow wave of the cruise ship, it is really going very slow...

    Wow, that was one ugly looking cruise ship, rusty, patched up and ready for a paint job...:rolleyes:

    IF the sailboat had communicated with the ship's bridge prior to the camera being turned on, then perhaps the silly maneuver could have been defended but not justified.
    Otherwise rather unwise sailing..:confused:

    Yup, that is why I said IF...

    Still a questionable maneuver, what if the wind died or changed and the motors did not seem to be running.

    Being a sailboater my self I have faced similar traffic situations numerous times in South Florida with cruise ships entering and departing ports frequently. My personal rule is to stay as far away as possible and have therefore staid off both YouTube and CNN. :cool:

    Agreed.
    I'd have altered course and given way a few NM before and not even considered picking up the mic to discuss options with the captain.
    Just not wise, all things and possibilities considered.

    This video of CARNIVAL DREAM was filmed in June 2009 prior to the ships maiden voyage. It was actually brand new - they hadn't finished painting it yet.
