"New" 1999 Post 50

    HI Guys - just closed on a spectacular, dream-come-true '99 Post 50. I've had her out briefly 3 times the last week since closing (including 10 miles offshore for a quick fishing trip to drown some worms) before putting her in the yard for some minor service items, and some customization to make her my own! What an AMAZING VESSEL!! I had a 34' Searay Sundancer w/ the Sportsman package and (this probably won't surprise anyone on this forum) the Post is such a dramatically different and complete fishing and cruising machine. I'm just in awe of the craftsmanship/construction/solid-build, the superbly "dry" ride we experienced in 5'-6' seas heading 10 miles offshore, and the ability to come back in in those same seas at 21 knots. I could not be happier and she has already seriously exceeded my highest-possible expectations. One of the very experienced Captains I'm working with (who was on the boat) explained what a horribly "wet" ride the '54 Hatteras was by comparison.

    I'll be posting some pictures here in the next couple of weeks of the upgrades and customization that we're doing to her. And if there are any other Post owners in the Clearwater area, let me know...would love to connect and learn more from what you're doing with your boat, etc.

    Ummmmm well, I've run both boats extensively and the Post is a submarine compared to a Hatteras 54' and your captain is well not telling the truth there. The Post is a pretty good running boat in a sea, but dry is not one of the features it's known for, nor is as good as a 54' Hatteras in a sea.

    The Post 50' is a good boat and roomy for it's size, it likes to run with the aft tank kept full at all times (transfering fuel from the bow tank to the aft tank every couple of hours at cruise). The Post is roomy inside and in the cockpit thanks to it's wide beam and a pretty well thought out boat.

    Congratulations on your new Post! I have a few friends with Posts and they are great!
    How is your gelcoat? You are in that window that had the crazing gelcoat problem. Post and Viking both sued the gelcoat manufacturer but lost in court. I know Post had to repaint a lot boats that put them in serious financial trouble. Of course they eventually went out of business and a local marina owner by me bought Post out of bankruptcy.

    Thanks "C"! I had read extensively about the 36 or 37 Post's that were affected by the gel coat issue in my '99 window of time. Fortunately, there are no issues with my Post (other than some very minor spider cracks in a couple of spots). She flew through both the hull and engine surveys (both surveyors commenting separately that she was in "much better than average" condition), and is in truly "Cherry" condition! Her former owner was an avid offshore fisherman spending entire summers off the Abico's fishing, as well as extended trips just off of Cuba and the Middlegrounds in the Gulf. However, I think "open checkbook" was his mindset for maintenance, and it shows. Divorce, however, dictated that he part with her.

    Congratulations. You've got a thoroughbred beneath you when you're on that bridge! I 've had my 98 for 13 years. That 54 Hattie that CaptJ was bragging about, is no match for your speed and fuel efficiency, though, admittedly, it can take a heavier sea.

    They are awesome boats, good luck with her.

    My Post has exceeded my expectations in quality, workmanship, fit, finish, and handling.....

    My last boat was a Viking and the Post is dryer and doesnt pound like the Viking did. The Viking did handle better in a following sea, but the Post is much more stable and doesnt rock on the troll or at anchor like the viking.

    Also, I have been rocked silly on some Bertrams.

    I dont have experinece on the newer Hats.

    ? The 54' Hatteras built in the 2000's cruises at 33 knots, albeit at 120 gph with C30's. Faster yes, but not nearly as fuel efficient as the Post. The 50' Post I ran that my customer owns cruises at 26 knots with it's 820 mans and I want to say at 50gph.

    The C30 Hatts are not a 1999 boat. In the 2000's Post made at least one 50 with 1100 mans, that' when the double side vents were introduced. C-30 Hattie ain't catching it.

    Anyway, back to the thread, Cap-n Eddie your going to love that boat. Particularly the hugh salon, and cockpit

    Many thanks, guys...even you "Cap'n J" :D (and I do appreciate your opinions)! The wife and family are all very excited about our new acquisition, and we've already got some great trips planned between now and Christmas. I'll be "POST"-ing some pics, and I encourage every one here to post pics of their beloved "Hatt-destroyers" (sorry "J"). I know custom manufacturing as good as anyone out there, and my Post EXCEEDS my expectations for this category of boat in fit/finish/construction/craftsmanship. And I'm looking forward to doing a quarter mile drag race down the strip against any local "Hatt's" around Clearwater, and then comparing fuel numbers...Hahahaha!

    One thing you need to pay attention to is the head valves. If you leave the direct overboard valves open, or the gravity drain valves open (designed to gravity empty the tank when the boat is at cruise) they'll back feed and fill up the tank when you slow down.......

    A 2001' 50' Post SF. I ran it a little here and there for a few years.....and did a lot of various repairs and such on the boat.
