My 1991 Carver 370 MY has a rough steering radis. It feels like the cables are bumpy as I turn the wheel.
Cables on a 35/40 footer? I doubt it... Should be hydraulic. Check fluid level, if you can't figure it out at least tell us what kind / brand of steering system you have
not sure about Carvers, but i had a 35 Viking with cable steering that was very reliable, the only draw back was finding an auto pilot for a cable steered boat that size and displacement. The Carver is mostlikely much lighter than the Viking.
I agree with talexander. Check your air pressure in the steering control mechanism, it is usually located in the Aft Cabin under the night stand. Should be around 20 lbs of pressure. I keep a small sports pump on my boat just in case it gets low. Usually have to check and fill it to proper pressure at the beginning of the season.
In your boat it should be accessible through the lounge seat next to the drawer set that the head door hides.
not to steal the thread.. i have the 4207 and cannot find the resevoir... the manuel says it is at the wheel... but not no mine... any suggestions?
