Privilege Yard

I don´t think so...

Does anybody have a good location for the shipyard? I tried looking around the port area as well as a small harbor area a mile or so south of the main port complex and couldn't find the shipyard. I was assuming that the yard was pretty close to the waterfront. Also, are they going to build the entire vessels at their complex or are they going to build modules and assemble them elsewhere? If they are going to build the vessels at the complex I see a real problem moving them out of the yard. I just have the overhead picture of the website to go on so I may be off-base.

If you go to these coordinates in Google Earth(not Google Maps) and then go into street view you can see the yard built out and the massive scafolding containing the first build of "Privilige".



Imagine coming up on this scene while driving along some random road outside of Rome!

I saw the keel being laid but thought it would have been scrapped. I will see if I can remember how to check but, in case someone can find out before I can, does anyone know how old these street view images are?

They are obviously not that old as a popular yachting magazine published photos and details just 3 days ago...and she seems to be in the same construction phase on these pics.

In typical Italian fashion, At least the yacht is large enough to justify a full time marine electrician as crew in addition to a full time engineer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The stark reality of something this size is no matter where built you will need a small army to run it.

Ohhhhh yeah, I would guess a crew of 40 would be about right. I wouldn't want a yacht that size, where you're regulated to either docking in commercial shipping ports or anchored out, because you're just too big.

What's the scrap value of steel in Italy at the moment? I fear this is where this particular project is headed.

Ps. I spent all afternoon fixing rusty bodywork on my little Fiat and sick of the sight of Italian steel just right now.

Royal yachts seem to have higher crew requirements than private ones. I believe Rising Sun averages 40 but can have a lot more (going off the top of my head, not precise).

I found the Privilege yard on Google Earth, though the satellite image is before they built anything. You can turn on GE's Street View and see that big boy under the scaffolding but to me, the $64K question is how in the world are they going to launch the yacht?? The small canal/channel that runs through the property cannot possibly wide/deep enough and the yard is separated from the shore by a decent sized road..

Here is one more shot of the yard from further inland (I guess behind the yard) looking back at the scaffolding..date of this Street View image is 3/2011...still have no idea as to how they will move the yacht to the water unless the enlarge that small channel close to the build...
