I have a carver motor yacht and I have a 1 to 2 inch crack next to a hull vent and the repair guy says he can repair it but he can't guarantee a color match so I don't know if want to spend 400-500 on it is there a fix to just fill the crack and seal it.Thankyou

They may make a gelcoat repair kit that is in a 2 ounce tube that you can carefully apply to fill the crack. Try contacting Spectrum Color in Florida as they supply it and make it for most manufacturers. I know that it matches almost perfectly......I've bought it for Searay's and a Cruisers.......However try your dealer first as Spectrum usually only deals with companies in the industry.

They can be found at All Categories

WM and most others sell a 2 part repair kit that you can blend, but matching is truly an art. I always keep a tube of QuickFix in my briefcase for when an owner has a little ding. It's not perfect, but generally looks fine (and more importantly prevents water intrusion) when they don't want to lay out several hundred.

Not sure who he used, but my repair guy took a small square of my gelcoat as a sample and sent it off to have an exact match. Gallon costs around $350 including shipping about a year and half ago.

    Try Evercoat (ScratchPatch, Mix'n'Match).

    Cheers,

Spectrum color makes the gelcoat for many manufacturers. It is a thick paste that is already mixed to the correct color. Searay sells it in a tube, for their boats at the dealer. It's easy to use, can then be sanded and buffed/compounded and comes out near perfect. There's no mixing and matching.

Coat with a spray can. Any paint suitable for exterior plastic...or find a car the same color as your deck and use auto spray paint.

To fix a crack? The poster, I believe wants to repair it properly with something that should last, and look like the crack wasn't there.

Adam, if you get in touch with Spectrum, tell them the make, year and model of your Carver and they will have a kit to match it. It's called a "Patch Paste" kit and it runs about $27. I've used them a couple of times and have had great luck with the quality of the material and the color matching.
