I got to do manifolds and risers on my 1995 carver 454xl's any suggestions on what to use and good prices
Lighthouse Marine in Riverhead or Abequoge (im sure I spelled that wrong) Edgar Ave in Riverhead near Larry's Lighthouse Marina their counter people are very knowledgeable and helpful, they pull up the part number on their computer and have all or most of the parts in stock, they have everything in stock for Crusaders and will walk you through the proper install of the risers and gaskets. they are pretty good on pricing and Im not sure if they will match prices, but they have everything and will even ship Lighthouse is my first stop for anything Crusader on Long Island. All my experincies with them have been very positive. I AM NOT AFFILIATED WITH THIS BUSINESS IN ANYWAY!
Crusader manifolds are freshwater cooled and usually go forever. The risers only are raw water cooled on Crusaders. I'd replace with geniune Crusader parts, the aftermarket manifolds don't seem to last nearly as long in most cases.
It depends, some crusaders are set up with raw water cooled manifolds and some have coolant cooled manifolds The coolant cooled riser set up has a block off stainless washer and a return elbow in the system before the block off washer and riser The coolant cooled risers usually last as long as the engine
How do I find out if I have coolant cooled manifolds I have a 95 carver 355 aft motoryacht with crusader 454xl's . Does anyone else think the same only chage risers?
Do you have a horizontal tube heat exchager on the front of the motor and a coolant resevoir? If not they all of your motor is raw water cooled.
I have a 1998 350 Mariner with the same engines. It was operated in FL salt when I bought it from the origional owner in Oct. 2010. I immedaitely had the manifolds and risers replaced, as they were origional (12 years old). The inside of the riser/elbow was nearly corroded shut, and when I compared them to the new ones I saw passages in the new ones that weren't even visible in the old ones. My mechanic said the Mercury parts weren't available so I got OSTCO (or something like that). I don't want to go through that expense again anytime soon...
Hi, It has been many years since we had gas powered boats. It seemed every boat I bought I had to change the exhaust manifolds and rebuild the head. I'd used OSCO a few times. The manifolds fit as advertised, no grinding, no drilling and they came with the correct gaskets etc. So Yeah, I think they were good.
What is leading you to think you have to change 'em out... high operating temperatures, or rusting around the base of the mani's ?
