    What it means in todays market $35,000 for a 1990 carver should be the right price for it. If you are selling a boat in todays market it is tuff to get $65,000 for a 1990 carver. If you do you are lucky. That what it means.

    I believe Soldboats on Yachtworld begs to differ. I also know first hand that people are giving up the money you think is unheard of for nice boats.

    I just wonder what you gauge your pricing figures on to back it up besides just your "thoughts". I have hard data.

    My personal experience from last summer is that asking prices are currently determined by the loan amounts outstanding on boats. However selling prices are determined by negotiation and the desperation of the sellers. Many are willing to swallow a good portion of the debt just to get out. My people did very well. If you're dealing with a boat that has no loan all bets are off with how low the price could go, but they'll surely exceed the discount offered by someone who's indebted. So shoppers should do their due diligence. Investigate how long the boat has been on the market, and try to ascertain the seller's situation. As spring launch fees are coming due shortly this is a very good time to shop.

    In the middle of this p----ng contest did anybody notice that there's talk here about apple and oranges. Sam made statements about '89 & '90. Those references are about '91 & newer, and the two highest prices were before the height of the crash. I think that ALL the info here will be helpful to any potential buyers, although possibly not welcomed by sellers who bought around '07, but the up side is things are starting to stabilize a bit.

    Of course all bets may be off when gas hits $6.00 per gallon this summer. 36 to 40 ft boats are generally owned by people that work for a living; not rich people with unlimited resources that don't care how much fuel costs. Therefore, more people may want to sell which will bring the price down. By the way, we are now being told that even though most of the gas used in the Midwest comes from sweet Texas crude, the fact that the situation in Greece is improving is what is driving up oil prices. Guess they couldn't get the Iranian threat to work since even Europe now gets less than 2% of it's fuel from Iran. Sometimes I wonder whats worse; socialism where the government takes all my money or capitalism where Exxon takes all my money.

    In fact they are apples to apples, the 1989 36 (Labeled as a 3607) is a different boat than the 1990.5 3608. VERY different boat.

    There were no 1990 3608's sold in the past year and all sold prices quoted are 2011-current. You may be confusing the listed price date with the sold date. This is normal since they did not make many 1990 36's of either model.

    One of the highest prices was sold in May last season, I know this becuase I sold it.

    Just as an education so everybody can see that it is all laid out:

    1982-1990.5 = 3607 Motoryacht (The narrower beam boxier profile)
    1990.5-1996 = 36/3608/370 Motoryachts (Wider beam more euro profile for those years)

    The fact is that when boats get to this age it really doesn't matter what year it is as long as its the same model, condition means way more than age.

    There are a few 1990 3608's currently listed on Yachtworld and there is a fairly large span of prices from top to bottom. One thing to also consider (and which seems to be reflected in asking prices) is if the boat is fresh water or salt. This could mean alot considering what may need replacing on a salt water boat (especially on the engine) versus fresh water. That many years in the salt is going to take a far greater toll on a boat than one in fresh (especially cold fresh water like the Great Lakes).
