I believe some of them were built by Leisure Cat in Australia. There were also some custom ribs and camera platforms built by Extreme Ribs in the Netherlands. I saw them at Cascais but didn't get to Plymouth. I think that there may have been different ones in San Diego due to some government restriction or other. The coverage really has been fantastic for any fan of sailing.

Thanks for the suggestions but I checked Leisure Cat and Extreme Ribs websites and could not find any designs that looked like the long sleek hulls of the boat in these clips:

    Any other ideas?

Found this AC clip regarding extreme ribs:

Is this the boat in question?

Genius! That is the boat! Totally awesome design. Thanks for finding the clip, it answers all my questions!

And my apologies to Codger, he was right on track in his post.

It will be very interesting to see how the cat is further refined during ongoing coverage of the America's Cup and then adapted for other applications in the consumer market!

She sure caught my eye as the perfect example of a successful form follows function design as I saw her agilely darting to and fro round the race track!

I thought it was rather amusing to hear a RIB was designed to keep up with a sailboat. Granted, the sailboats are racing catamarans though.

Found a clip ACRM Ribs & Media Cat 2011 - YouTube that shows more about the RIBs and a little more about the genesis of the Media Cat.

The repeated continuous curved strakes on the bottom of the RIB look like they should provide an excellent ride.

Here's a nice little yacht I saw in the background of one of the Volvo Ocean Race podcasts... anyone know her name?

The boat is a Volvo 70, called Azzam, from the Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing. Skippered by Ian Walker from the UK.

I think it also got a new record for the transpac race - cut it by an hour.

Fun fact #1 for a V70 - They can top out at 40knots! Cheers

    I know her from someplace....

I was in Savannah, GA for work today and saw this boat. I know that I have seen her around over the years, but I can't recall how or from where. I am in and out of Palm Beach and I am based out of Naples, FL.

I did not have the time to go over and see the name plate. Thanks,

    Cheers

    William

She still is. In a previous life she was called Corisande and belonged to the parents of one of our fellow YF Members.

She is a 1938 Philip King, and she had a bit part in TENDER IS THE NIGHT.

In my books she was launched in 1930 by Philip & Sons and relaunched by Camper and Nicholson in 1999 after an extensive refit.

Atlantide ex Corisande ex Ariane ex Caleta

She sank during the later part of WW2 and was refitted between 1946 and 1948 by Thornycrofts after which she spent about 12 years in Cannes as Ariane.
She then became Corisande in about 1961 and flew the white ensign for a few years which looked very impressive.

The first yacht is a Overmarine Mangusta 165... the Trimaran is the yacht Adastra.

Yeah it is a Mangusta 165' for sure. The first photo alone gives it away. As to which one it is i'm not sure there are seven hulls around. The other one as was said is "Adastra" you can check her out on McConaghy Yacht. The company's website you can access via the advertising banners or...

    BTW, welcome to YF.com Sgunn393!!!

    Please identify this boat

Sighted in Split, Croatia on 27th August 2012. Sorry for the bad quality photograph but it was quite far away. It powered out of the harbour at great speed before I could get a clearer shot!

I suspect it's a passenger liner of some sort but definitely had the look of a superyacht. At first I thought it might be Turama but I'm not too sure.

    Thanks!
