Does anyone know the weight of A Detroit DDC 1500 hp 16/92 and the weight of a Caterpillar C 32 Acert 1900 hp Thanks Danny
Hi, Cat Selection Guide gives dry weight of 6600 to 6950 lbs for that engine I found this when looking for something else this might answer your DD Question. http://www.yachtsurvey.com/Detroitratings.jpg
Very close. 7240 lbs for the 16V92 DDEC. 7200 lbs for the C32 Acert. Plain C32 1650 is 1000 lbs lighter. You will likely need a bigger gear, shafts and such. Need to check tip clearence on the props to see if you can swing that much more wheel.
Increasing propellor pitch is not going to effect the clearance on the tips of the props. You should be able to keep RPM's in check with propellor pitch and gear ratio without resorting to increased diameter. Chances are diameter need not be increased since the origional diameter is enough for the boat as is. You could always increase the number of blades of the propellors instead of diameter as well.
Hi, The weight figure I gave came from a CAT Marine Engine Selection Guide. I used the numbers given for C32 ACERT Pleasure Craft Engines with a 1900 HP Rating E Rating, the C32 ACERT Commercial selection which maxes out at 1600 HP with a D Rating is given as being between 7100 to 7300 lbs dry.
