Front rudder?

    In ran into this ship and noticed something i hadn't seen before; a front rudder :confused: :eek:

    Anyone familiar with this construction?

    There is nothing new! ;) As you can see of the age of the ship, this forward rudder was the fore runner of bow thrusters, especially on river barges.

    Today we can see them on offshore sail racing boats, mounted in front of the keel and refered to as Canards...

    Heyyy, uhh. I know this I'm sending this literally 17 years years later, but do you know where I can find photos of old smaller ships like this one? They're so pretty and I love looking at them. I want to design one of my own for fun but can't find any like it anywhere.
