Fire at Miami's Grove harbor marina

It actually appears that 4 or 5 are destroyed including the one towed out although she not gone yet in the video. Three of the yachts at the dock that are pretty much history are the Parranda, ZaZa, and a third that I could only get 'Fridaspi' from the stern shot.

Paranda is owned by the Pilon coffee family and had just undergone a major refit. Too bad.

Anyone know what brand the 65 that was towed away was?

Any idea what caused the fire?

Was that the Versilcraft that I've seen kicking around Grove Harbor?

If I had to guess, judging by the burn patterns on the side of the 70 Azimut sea jet and the way the 85 Azimut are burned, I'd say the fire started in the Marquis. I've seen three so far that have had fires that started in the lazarette.

I that was an 80 that used to be owned by one of my friends.

I have to wonder what would have happened if that boat wasn't towed out. By towing it away there was no access to the vessel by anyone with a fire hose to put out the embers that eventually lit up the rest of the boat.

I too have seen electrical issues and fires on 2 different Marquis that I was briefly involved with.

The boat appears to have been towed out in an attempt to get it away from the spreading fire. Had it stayed the fire may have taken more boats. In the video there was a fire boat working the boat that was towed.

A 69' Marquis caught fire anchored in NY harbor a while ago that was a friends of one of the owners I work for, their poodle perished, but everyone else survived, the boat burned to the waterline. It was determined the fire was caused because the bow thruster had no breaker or fuse and shorted out.

I ran a 56' Marquis that had the stbd engine wiring harness catch on fire about a minute after starting it. It had a flame about a foot high and a foot and a half wide that I extinguished with a fire extinguisher. The flame was 12" from the engine room ceiling and 12" from the fuel tank.

I also ran a 69' Marquis where the starter on the stbd engine stayed running, and I had to run to the engine room and hold the shutdown down on the engine and turn the battery switch off. The starter was smoking at this point but no actual fire. I imagine in another 60 seconds the starter/wiring/engine would've been on fire.

The starter could have happened on any boat, and the wiring harness could have been caused by a few things, but the thruster is a great example of why one should favor a reputable brand over a cheaper copy. Everybody makes pretty boats these days, but where that cheaper price comes from is the things you might not notice. A breaker or fuse? What are we taking about $20? Keep cutting out those $20 items that nobody will look at and you've got a great price for a terrific boat, although it may be more likely to sink or burn due to a $20 savings.

Both marquis that I knew of with fire damage happened because of fire that originated from the stern thrusters.
