Like many, I signed on here to learn about and lend my knowledge about boat-related topics.

It seemed to start down in the Yacht Club section and has now made its way to the General Discussion area--the endless politicization of any and all topics....not to mention the personal attacks which would get one cold-cocked in any bar.

Yo, guys, we all know who the lefty liberals and argumentative clueless types are around here. Give it a rest, or, perhaps, if there is the seeming constant need to enter into incessant p!ssing contests, maybe the mods could see fit to move innocent yacht-related threads that threaten to become nasty personal-attack-flamethrower-type posts to some other place within the Forum, a thread called, say, "I am an angry mouth-breathing knuckle-dragger with no interest other than showing that I am a swinging d!ck".

Flame me all you want--I got my full Nomex on--and I know just who you will be--the non-contributors who add 1% value here and 98% aggravation for the rest of us. We don't want you here in the Adult Section. Go away.

Somebody had to have the b@lls to say this.

Oh, and Merry Christmas to you all.

I agree 100%. My previous post was meant to be about our industry, than to the political right and left. It needs to be removed, and I will never post up a story that has a political slant.

In my first post I warned that was a political post and needed to be closed. I said the same thing with the other thread. But there is no free advertising. If we're going to discuss politics it won't be one sided. We are in an extraordinary time and a very scary one. Opinions on politics are polarized and very important. Somebody is right and somebody is wrong and we'll all find out who together as the future unfolds, but the stakes are high. There is no 'in the middle' So a subtle hint to all: "politics, the administration, taxes, jobs, OWS, 1%, 99%, taxes, taxes, taxes, etc.......' .Need I write them all.? If you're about to post any of those words, make no mistake that you're starting a political discussion.

The tone and content has drifted from the quality that I remember and enjoyed. Let's hope this is a first step towards a return to glory.

    Bravo Loren !!

For those of you 'Absolutely' hell-bent on using YF as a political platform or a podium for condescending comments, here's what you're doing to our community...

    Loren-
What kind of scotch do you drink?

It would be nice, delightful in fact if members could stick to the topics at hand and leave their political thoughts, slants, bias, innuendos, slams, etc. out of it. YF is not the place for it. Period.

Sure, there are a variety of topics thrown around in the off topics area, however there's no real reason for lawn darting a thread with your political views or opinions.

I enjoy YF both as a boat owner, and an enthusiast, and respect those that contribute to the forums and make it a regular stop in my armchair travels. It provides me a relief with awesome reviews, photography, information and discussions about boats, and the random "hey, check out this _____ youtube, image, joke, etc."

Whatever you type, and before you hit "submit" remember this golden rule: The community in which you contribute to is only as good as the content created by the members" So ask yourself, "does this contribute or add value to the content of the community?"

The question isn't hard to answer.
Asking it, honestly, of yourself, is indeed the challenge.

I'll be topside if you need me. I hear there's booze and bikinis up there!

Perfect, when the Government makes it almost impossible for people to enjoy yacht ownership (happened before , remember??) Luxury tax etc..and the yards and suppliers are suffering, lets not get involved on here, after all, when the yards and suppliers are hurting, the ows crowd will cheer and we will stand silent at the graveside, too political correct to post anything.

Just who are all these "lefty liberals and argumentative clueless types"? Would you care to explain in more detail how you yourself perhaps "can't or won't" contribute anymore? Was / is YF dedicated to the opposite of all those "lefty liberals and argumentative clueless types"?

So far as I'm concerned, some threads posted by I]the opposite[/I] of all those "lefty liberals and argumentative clueless types" automatically invite contary arguments, especially when these concern taxes whether or not specifically aimed at owners, crews or the industry in general.

I'd much prefer if over-sensitive subjects (ie. my boat's bigger than yours, or I'm more expert than you are", be moved from "general yachting discussion" to a more appropriate YF forum as the YF moderators deem fit. I think that currently YF mods don't always find the time to sort out what threads in the "general yachting discussion" forum better belong to another YF forum, such as technical discussion etc.

However (and a personal request, which I hope other YF contributors might second) - it would be nice to think that once a thread was transferred (or originally posted) to "the YF Yacht Club" forum, YF mods and all contributors would henceforth consider contributions to these threads as offering YF members an opportunity "to let their hair down, allow the legal consumption of alcoholic beverages whilst posting, and otherwise hang-out like you might in a place and with friends you're comfortable with", forgetting that you're CEO of FEADSHIP or other corporation for a few moments...?! YF mods would only intervene when/if Donald Rumsfeld starts harking on about his experience of yacht-ownership.

    Back to basics

I agree, it should be about boats, buoys, & bikinis.
