Anybody have any experience with "Safeshore Marine" galvanic isolators or a similar brand? Are they efficient?

I haven't dealt with sea-safe. However one of the boats I manage was chewing through zincs every 4-6 weeks and we had a surveyor check everything and the bonding system was all correct and he recommended a Galvanoic Isolator. I installed a Guest galvanic isolator on it about 2 or 3 years ago. It wasn't very expensive if I remember correctly $2-300, and an easy install. And, so far so good. The zincs are now lasting 6-8 months in saltwater and nothing else has changed.

Thanks Captain......same problem here. I have a boat with stern drives and the anodes on the stern drives erode almost completely every 8-10 weeks. The same boat in a different part of the marina, her anodes will last over 12 months.

    Hi,

You might wanna update the link Fish.

Two of the components of that system shown in the linked to page show out of production and no price

Check your shorepower and 110/220 volt wiring as well both on the boat side and shore side. In a marina, sometimes it is a neighbors boat. In this instance it helped considerably.

    Hi,

If you Google Volvo Penta Active Corrosion Protection you will get a good few hits.

Here is one from near the top of the list.

    http://www.volvopenta.com/SiteCollectionDocuments/Penta/EVC/Eng/Active Corrosion.pdf

FWIW: On a series of big steel boat we have used an an Impressed Current system on a few plus a few anodes around the thrusters and one on each of the props as a part of the end cap that covers the nut.

The Prop ones waste away at an astonishing rate on the boats with ICCP and don''t on the same style boat with the standard welded on anodes.

I was thinking it was the turbulence around the hub knocking them back till I saw the condition of the same anodes on a non ICCP boat.

The question now is : Is the ICCP working as well in practice as it's control panel would have you believe?

    Thanks K1W1.

I will order a Volvo Penta ACP and fit it to the vessel. I will also order a standard galvanic isolator and fit it to a sister boat which is moored in the same area. I will monitor the erosion of the anodes on both vessels and post my results.
