looking for 50 ft flybridge

    upgrading to 50 ft flybridge. boat in new england- long island sound mostly. currently have a crusiers 390 sport coupe. looking at Vikling(princess), Marquis 50 sport bridge, Azimut and sunseeker. Only been boating for 1 year so not that familiar with quality of construction. concerned marquis is a carver in disguise! like the look of the azimut but not sure about quality. viking has a great rep for quality, but you pay up 50% for it over azimut, so is it worth it?

    Marquis quality is in line with Carver's and I would avoid it. I managed a 50' Azimut and the quality was good but not great and it had Azimut nuinces. I wouldn't buy one, but would put it ahead of the Sunseeker. Electrical issues and was heavy on maintanence between keeping a million cushions clean, a lot of strataglass waxed, a lot of stainless and teak. Your best bet compared to what else you're looking at is a Searay Sedan Bridge. The quality is similar to what you're looking at, the systems are simple and easy to maintain as is the exterior of the boat.

    Thanks for the reply. I'm looking for a helm both up and down so the sea ray sedan bridge is not an option(only one bridge helm) Any more thoughts welcome!

    Welcome to YF.
    Are you looking for new or used? Search for Azimut on YF and make your own decision on it. Also look at ease/cost of maintenance. Certain engines may cost more than others for PM, etc. Sea Ray's are okay but if the Marquis checks well, I would consider it. As you know boating the Sound and out east the seas can and do kick it so go with a boat with good hull qualities.

    Well Searay is domestic. Azimut, Princess, and Sunseeker are built in Europe.

    Searay doesnt have two helms. Also have found them to be over priced and not premium quality plus low resale value due to the abundance of searay's in the market. thx for reply

    This Summer in Sicily I meet over a dozen Azimut 50 owners, most of which crew less boats, and all where very happy with the boats.
    I agree better then a Sunseeker, and also ahead of the Princess 50 MK.III which is too much in too little, and rolls a lot on anchor. But the 50 Mk.II and Mk.I was better and the old 52 was also a better sea boat to the newer 50s.
    Fairline just also launched a new 50 Squadron which is interesting, but a look at the old 50 Phantom is always a must. I like the old 50 Phantom a lot.
    Another boat I would definitly look at which is a little bit costier is the Ferretti 510 (now renamed 530) and the old Ferretti 500 if buying used. For me Ferretti is always a step ahead of the above.
    If you like Aussie builds you can also look at the Maritimo 500 Aegean, and Riviera 53 which is sportfish looking but has a lot of modern design going into it.
    As for the US I think the options out of my head are Meridian 541 Sedan, and Neptunus who have a 56 Flybridge.
    Other Italian brands who should have US dealerships and worth a look are Sessa, Aicon, and Cranchi.

    How about a Grand Banks or Hinckley? They have flying bridge models with dual helms to the best of my knowledge. They weren't on your original list but both seem to be high quality vessels.

    Yes saw the 50 Sport Bridge this Summer, and that boat navigates very much bow high and in balanced. In my opinion the flybridge remains an after thinking for the good looking 500 Sport Coupe. The main deck inside is also small compared to the above.
    I like the Marquis 42 and and 50 S-Coupe, but I was not impressed with this model.
    This is my opinion on looks so if you like it go ahead. Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder....
    The Marquis is also a new boat on European shores so actually I cannot say much about there quality, but a friend of a friend of myn has a 420 SC since 08 and is very happy with it.

    BTW I forgot the very high quality Uniesse in that list which had a nice 53 in production.

    carelm- thx, while not as sllep as look as i'd like, i'll take a look. speed will matter since i day trip a lot, so i'll look into cruise levels. thx
    liam- thx for the info, I havent sen the Marquis in person yet, so i dont really have an opinion on the interior. When you say the marquis rides bow high and "in balanced" did you mean un balanced? could you explain further. On the bow high issue, in your opnion does that eminate the lower helm as a viable spot to run her? thx

    Although the yard is mostly doing service work at present, West Bay SonShip still offers a very well-built 50ft pilothouse. Flybridge and lower helm station; two staterooms; walk-in engine room; designed and built in North America. I've been on board and run one. Quality fit and finish. Worth a look.

    Have a look at the new Fairline Squadron 50.......a recently launched model and very nice.

    Never helmed the Marquis 50, but going down back to my marina I meet a 50 Sport Bridge along the way speed about 22 knots and the boat was riding very bow high.
    It seemeed like going on the moon.
    I'd imagine with a bit of help from the tabs this would improve, but I am not so sure. I know a few IPS boats who suffer this problem.

    Fairlines are built in the UK. Original poster mentioned preferring a "domestic" builder; poster appears to be domiciled in USA.

    Nycap raves about the Princess/Viking SC 50'. Personally I wouldn't touch a Marquis after experiencing two of them, one look at the exterior hardware will tell you that. I re-iterate looking at a Searay, also a 56' Neptunus FB. A maritimo is also worth looking at if you're going non-domestic.

    rapscallion, thx they look a nice boat. Not sure how i would service a custom boat built in western canada in the northeast USA, but if i could , its worth a look.
