Gentleman, I recently bought a 1977 Carver Mariner 28ft. Boat is in Great shape and i picked it up for next to nothing(1000.00) The original owner had it for 12 years did lots of work to the boat keeping her in great shape, out drive, tune ups , ect ect ect. Inside The cabin is in great shape. I couldnt complain. He needed to sell because he was moving out of the country. His loss is my gain. The boat needed some things, I replaced the alternater due to low charge voltage, I rebuilt the raw water pump with new bearings and seals,Cost me 51 dollars verses the 500 they wanted for a new one. I did a full tune up ,rebuilt the carb, rebuilt the distributor, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, new fuel pumpand water sep. With all that done im confident to head out on the water. My questions, this boat has a single 255 hp mercuiser and im wondering what the top speed of this boat should be. And im wondering what the prop size that came with the boat is? The boat is slipped at a local marina so inspecting the prop becomes hard unless i jump in the fast moving river.I know its not a fast boat boat but i would like a idea of cruising speed and what to expect. I cant seem to locate any info on this boat except basic brochure paperwork. We love the boat and i have always loved the layout of the Mariner so when i came across it i was very happy! Anyone that can help with Tech help on this boat would be GREAT!!! I look forward to learning more from this forum! Thanks in advance!!! Patrick
If the boat is close to it's original weight without a lot of additional equipment I would expect 12-13 knots cruise and about 18 knots WOT.
In a Google search I saw several 1977 Carver Mariner 28' for sale, and it looks like you made a good deal. However, I read this Boat U.S. review with some information you should find interesting, and one thing I didn't understand. It said the model began in 1983.
