I am wondering why after being on the market for several years and having significant price reductions to $3,900,000.00 Opal C has not yet sold. I think she is one of the most beautiful and unique yachts on the market. At what price point do you think she will find a new owner? If it is not price then what is it?

    Hi,

It might not have sold because there is something wrong with it that you can't see from the dock.

The market for yachts designed for 1980's Bond villians just isn't what it used to be.

    Thanks Kev!

I've been in a pretty serious mood all day (which, by the way, doesn't happen that often).

Reading that broke that right up (thankfully). I was literally LOL ;)

I think maybe you can see it from the dock . . .

Hmm, what could be wrong with aluminium hull yacht 20 y/o...?

And it does look rather ugly by modern standarts.

Maybe remove rear spoiler and do a complete refit of the inside. might help to sell?

Are there inherent problems with a 20 y/o aluminum hull?

Considering comments about dated funky design etc, if Opal C does not have any major mechanical problems what would be a reasonable price to pay for her?

    This.

The first time I saw her my reaction was, "Apparently money can't buy taste". Still my reaction today.

The way I see it, and mind that it's lamer speaking, there well could be, but it's not realisitic to say without seeing/surveying it, and those who do, well, you guess, are bound by NDA and can't say anyways. So here goes style discussion :)

By the way, I've noticed many a Oceanfast yachts of that era has the same... strange styling.

I think she is a bargain, but of course she is not for free to run with her big engines. The aft spoiler has always been a conversation piece, it is huge, and I think most buyers would consider a remodelling. In fact, the broker is showing her both with and without it...:)

I actually like that large spoiler on "Opal C". It gives the yacht more of a personality and surely gets distinguished among all those look-alike yachts in today's marinas.

Plus lets not forget it was deigned by the late Jon Bannenberg, hence given we all know his designs are all masterpieces, why should an owner compromise such a design by eliminating a key element such as the spoiler?

Its almost like buying a vintage Ferrari F40 and cutting off the huge rear spoiler...!

But again, its their money.... and taste!

I like it too, on a distance. But if you saw her up close when alongside in the Port of Cap d'Ail, the spoiler seems to be far too high. I could think of reducing it and still keep the special overall styling of the yacht.

Please see ALL my previous posts about Jon Bannenberg designs, I think they are somewhat iffy.

I'm sure a Colombian Gent would love to get his hands on Opal C and spray it Matt Black. I think Karl's Klassy Kustomz would do a fine job of it, maybe add the odd flame down the side too.

Been there, done that! And I did like it!

In several occasion, the owner also kept a small "Smart" car on the upper deck, just beneath the spoiler next to the RIB tender. And that too was kind of cool..!

Here is a picture of the Smart Car under her spoiler! Pretty Cool:)

Have any of you been on Opal C? If so what do her interior spaces feel like and are they as functional as yachts of similar size?
