  1. Van Dam Launches New Motoryacht Range

Nordia yachts to combine class with sophistication

Van Dam has announced the development of a new range of semi-custom Nordia motoryachts. After decades of building premium sailing yachts, these all-aluminium powerboats mark an exciting departure for the leading Dutch yard. The official presentation is scheduled for the Moscow International Boat & Yacht show on April 12, 2007. Van Dam will also continue to create bespoke sailing yachts.

The foundation for this new development came after a two-year study of the yachting market carried out by the Van Dam management team. This survey concluded that there was a demand within the motoryacht market for the values that set the Nordia brand apart: Distinctive design, outstanding build quality, good performance and high value for money.

In the utmost secrecy, the yard’s designers developed a range of contemporary, stylish and elegant motoryachts that clearly display their own unique design characteristics. This new range draws on Van Dam’s 125 years of shipbuilding experience and 21st century levels of craftsmanship and engineering. The motoryachts will use the same Nordia brand name as the sailing yachts, a label used exclusively for yachts designed and built in the Van Dam shipyard in Holland.
  2. The semi-custom series...

The design concept for the Nordia motoryachts presented a challenge of its own. Since the average first owners sail their Nordia for about 15 years, this time frame had to be taken into account to ensure that the base design would stand the test of time, retain the yacht’s initial attractiveness and preserve the owner’s investment. Another strong value frequently mentioned by Nordia owners is the secure feeling they experience onboard, and this too had to be incorporated in the new motoryachts.

“The designs go slightly against the current mainstream in motoryacht design that seems to scream for attention,” comments Jacco Jongkind, Sales Manager at the Van Dam yard. “The Nordia approach to motoryachts will be less obtrusive and offer a distinguished and sophisticated look. Significant work has gone into ensuring that the yachts do not look carved or chiselled from any angle… Our design motto at Nordia remains ’form follows function’ and not the other way around”.

“Key targets for the design were a characteristic appearance, graceful lines and a healthy dose of joi de vivre. Because of our rich experience with custom sailing yachts that have circumnavigated the globe several times, there is also an emphasis on manoeuvrability, stability and safety for long distance cruising in all weather conditions.”

    LX and GT...

There are two different Nordia motoryacht designs available, one that breathes pure luxury and a design with a classy and sporty emphasis. Both are designed to the same concept but have their own characteristic lines, marked as LX for luxury and GT for Gran Tourismo. The interiors will be entirely custom designed to match the owners’ specific requirements.

The new range consists of a 22, 26 and 30-metre semi-displacement hull design, to be constructed in high-grade marine aluminium. Together with proven technology and Nordia’s unrivalled build quality, owners are guaranteed a safe, hassle-free, state-of-the-art yacht that will excite them for many years to come.

    Full custom design...

One of Van Dam Nordia’s strengths is its in-house design department. For over 125 years the shipyard has developed vessels specifically designed to the customer’s distinctive requirements. This tradition will of course also be part of the Nordia motoryacht activities.
