Looks like we will be having a good season in South East Queensland.
At this time of year the small Black Marlin head South and are a lot of fun to catch and Release.
Later in the season they head back North and are noticeably bigger.

Amongst these marlin we also catch a lot of Mahi-Mahi, Yellow Fin Tuna, Wahoo and other pelagics.
Must apologise for the poor images. Taken from screen shots in Video mode.
Tight Lines to all YF fishermen.

Hey Kafue, Why did you have to bring it into the boat? Did you have a foul hook that required doing so?

Hook went into the bill. Was a good strike.
The entire video shows me leaning over the transom, holding the marlins bill in one hand and trying to pull the hook out the bill with the other, not the easiest job.

:DO.K. well I'll let that one slide then. As a fisherman you know bringing a fish aboard you tend to release, onto the deck wipes off their layer of protective slime, and can endanger them, or at best reduce their chance of survival. I was just curious. I saw one of the photo's of you or your mate working around the head of the fish, and assumed that it was foul hooked, the only reason for bringing a fish on board. And shame on you...fish that small should be fought with spinning tackle!:D I'd also like to know what pound test you were using? I'm going to get into that part of the world one of these days...and I'm bringing my fly rod with me..If your willing to take me out...I'll pay for the fuel...I've always wanted a Marlin on fly...those look to be the perfect size!

What do you guys pull? Lures, Live bait, Dead bait, Bait and Switch? I always pull Lures, and many years ago I switched to big circle hooks to avoid tail hooks and bill hooks. The only time I use baits are dead baits when drift fishing.
