This is why you want some line at the end of your rode... cut it loose when needed!

I was wondering that myself, why didnt they cut the rode. I thought maybe no one was on board that knew what to do.

I thought no one was on the anchored boat at all.

You can see people walking around on the flybridge.

I didn't notice. Does seem like they could have found something better to have done than walking around on the bridge. Of course, seems like the ship could have better chosen to watch what they were doing.

You would think, but having not been there it's tough to make that judgment. Can you imagine asking one of your crew to run up to the bow, to release the anchor brake, while there is a cruise ship imminently crashing into your bow? I don't think I would want to be that close to the impact zone.

And all the time you're thinking, "surely they are going to stop, surely they aren't going to hit us, surely they have someone watching, surely they see us......omgntdmfjcmb"

I wonder if panic set in? How hard would it have been to let more line out? Can't that be done from the bridge with a button?

Imagine the line getting wound onto the ship's wheel and the little yacht going REAL fast for just a short trip........
You can let mine down from the bridge but you don't know who was on the yacht and what they knew about the boat..

I wouldn't think so. I haven't seen a remote anchor windlass control on anything over 70', and that boat looks larger than 70'

Never understood that one... I like to control the windlass and the boat at the same time without having to rely on a crew at the bow. One of the first thing I'd did on the 84 Lazzara I started running back in august was adding controls for the windlasses

I guess it depends on the boat. It would be tough for me to do that on a 50m. And probably a little irresponsible, as the gear is much heavier, and therefore more susceptible to self-destruction.

same on our Terranova 85 anchors and chain are on hull, chain running on stainless steel pipe and going out 1/3 on hull and going out on anchor plate holder not like traditional anchor roller on bow.

With that I can tell you impossible to operate windlass from pilothouse you need physically people on bow with windlass remote control and tell you position of the chain.
