  1. New Mulder 73 Wheelhouse: A wolf in sheep's clothing

Mulder Shipyard in the Netherlands has launched "Float", a Mulder 73 Wheelhouse built for a Swiss owner who is known for his love of surprises. The distinguished and relaxed appearance of the yacht gives little inkling of the power that resides within. Concealed within the heart of the vessel are twin Caterpillar C12 engines that together offer some 1430 horsepower. These contribute to Float’s exceptional performance for a yacht of this type, with a top speed of no less than 24 knots. Such speeds are also made possible by an all-aluminum construction, offering a total weight of less than 50 tons.

This project once again proves Shipyard Mulder's unique ability to create very special yachts in aluminum for its wide international client base. With a champagne hull finished with metallic paint, a wealth of stainless steel and high-gloss lacquered teak cap rails, Float exudes luxury and perfection. This aura is further reinforced by the use of LED lights in the passerelle, and the underwater lighting aft. The combination of the lighting and the stainless steel nameplate on the stern makes for an impressive effect.

The owner has made no concessions in terms of equipment and likes to compare Float with his Aston Martin. Four 15-inch displays in the wheelhouse offer complete control of all technical systems. These range from the hydraulic opening wheelhouse roof to the transom door, which opens to reveal to a jet driven tender. The interior is finished in white-wash teak combined with wengé wood. One of the many smart below decks features is an iPod docking station complete with a Denon sound system in each cabin.

Float will be initially berthed in the Mediterranean area. Meanwhile, Mulder Shipyard is now putting the final touches to its next model, the Mulder 54 Open. This will be presented by the yard later this year.
