New motor first oil sample

    New crate V8 Yanmar installed 1/2022. Combination of inactive and lightly used since then, 84 hours. Recent oil sample showed all levels normal except silicone. Is that normal due to the break-in period, new seals and gaskets?

    Silicone (silicon dioxide) in your oil comes from 2 common sources.
    Leaching from gaskets, sealants and fittings like you mentioned,
    from the castings and machining of the engine parts also
    Or micro dust in the oil (silica).

    May I recommend checking the cleanliness of the engine's environment, checking the engine's air filter and spot checking the oil in a few hours.
    Not much else to do other than run the engine a lil more often.

    Silicone is nothing I would worry about. IF you're just changing the oil now, after 2.5 years, it's probably leeched from gaskets or even the o-ring on the oil filter. Oil should be changed annually regardless of hours. Motor should also be run to temp every 2-4 weeks at a minimum.
